Hair stylists to gather for Kut-A-Thon

The members of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 7 are geared up for a hair-cutting frenzy.

Scissors in the hands of stylists from nearly a dozen area salons will be warmed up and ready to start snipping new haircuts for area residents on Tuesday, September 22, from 9:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The “Kut-A-Thon” takes place at American Legion Post headquarters, Morelos 114 in Chapala.

The money received is earmarked to assist the special needs children at the Little Blue School House, the projects of the Tepehua women and the Cruz Roja first responder care providers.

Participating salons include Gloriosa Hair Design, New Look Studio, Edith’s Hair Stylists, Crisco Salon by Angel Estrada, Yoly’s Unisex Styling Salon, Hair by Sasha, Innovation Hair Salon and Sara’s Beauty Salon.

During the day both clients and stylists will receive valuable information from local hair experts.  At 10:30 a.m. a presentation entitled Hair 101 explores why hair performs as it does and the tricks that can be used so that clients can win the battle of the hairstyle.

Dr. Marta Ballestaros will speak with the stylists at 11 a.m. about skin cancer awareness, explaining the spots and marks they should watch for and things to point out to their clients.

A wide range of special features are available in addition to haircuts.

Men can opt to have their “ears lowered” for 80 pesos or they can have a beard and mustache trim for 30 pesos.

Ladies with short hair will pay 80 pesos; longer styles or hair that is all one length will ring in at 150 pesos.

Once those attending have a beautiful new hairstyle, they can opt to have their make up professionally applied and a photo taken for an additional 50 pesos.

Students from the Academia de Belleze and Gastronomia will be observing the creation of the styles and will help with blow drying and finishing the styles. The Tepehua women will be on hand with to sell their artistically designed projects. Some of the children from the Little Blue School House will stop in for part of the day to meet the donors.
