Golf tourney aims to raise funds for new Red Cross equipment

The annual Cruz Roja Golf Classic, scheduled Thursday, November 5 at the Chapala Country Club, is stuffed with prizes for participants and benefits for Cruz Roja Chapala.

Great prizes are on offer for male and female golfers in the “Closest to the Pin” and “Closest to the Line” competitions.

A new car, donated by Dalton Toyota, will be the prize for a hole-in-one on #4 and the lucky golfer who bags an ace on #8 will take home a brand new golf cart donated by Lozano.  Many door prizes are also up for grabs.

The fun never ends with a putting contest, a raffle, a silent auction and a 50/50 draw. Tickets cost 1,000 pesos for Country Club members and 1,200 for non-members. Tickets are available at the pro shop at the club located in the Vistas del Lago neighborhood to the east of Chapala.

Tickets entitle holders to a continental breakfast, a goodie bag from the sponsors, a sandwich lunch on the course, and the now-famous barbecue dinner at the end of the day’s play.

The big winner of the event will be the Chapala Red Cross. The Golf Classic is working this year to raise enough money to purchase new equipment for the emergency room. First on the wish list is a new autoclave (a pressure chamber used to sterilize equipment and supplies).

The event begins with a ‘shotgun” start at 9 a.m.

Tickets for this event traditionally sell out quickly. Dinner only tickets are available for 250 pesos at the club’s pro shop or the Lake Chapala Society.
