Dems prepare to watch debates

The Democrats Abroad have logged four events on the November calendar beginning with Democrat Watch Parties on Friday, November 6 and Saturday, November 14 at Salvador’s Restaurant in Ajijic.

For the Democratic Forum from Rock Hill South Carolina moderated by Rachel Maddow on November 6, attendees will gather at 6:30 p.m. and the forum is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. The start time of the debate from Des Moines, Iowa, on November 14, will be announced. Doors at Salvador’s will open half an hour before air time. Snacks will be served. There will be a cash bar and those attending will pay a 50-peso donation.

Paul Crist, the guest speaker for the Monday, November 9, 4-5 p.m. meeting of the Lake Chapala Chapter of Democrats Abroad, has degrees in architecture, political science and international economics. Crist serves on the board and executive committee for Americans for Democratic Action.

He will discuss the private banking sector’s role in creating the national (and global) money supply in his presentation, “Where Does Money Come From and the Case for Public Banking.” He will include a brief history of the Federal Reserve, its role in managing the money supply. Crist also explores a workable alternative that was tested in colonial America and is grounded in the best of U.S. economic thought. He makes the case for a public banking alternative system that would work alongside smaller, local private banks to help rebuild American infrastructure at low cost and provide the credit needed by local small and medium-sized businesses.

Democrats Abroad is an active international group working to raise money to help support the work of the Democrat National Committee (DNC) and local chapters of Democrats Abroad
