Renovations are once again underway at the Auditorio de la Ribera, lakeside’s prime venue for all kinds of cultural programs and community events.
Continuing its work to upgrade the 40 year-old facility, the non-profit support group Pro-Auditorio has launched a online crowdfunding campaign aimed at raising $US10,000 by the end of this month.
For those unfamiliar with the latest trend in fund-raising, crowdfunding is a method of utilizing Internet platforms to reach a large pool of donors and collect individual contributions towards a common goal.
The current Pro-Auditorio project aims to improve the building’s air conditioning system to enhance the comfort and enjoyment of audiences attending music, dance and theatrical performances and other special events. The goal is to assure efficient and quiet interior cooling and likewise isolate exterior noises emanating from highway traffic, the neighboring charro arena and other sources.
The work involves an innovative design to construct solid ducts for both air supply and extraction, complete with sound-absorbing linings, as well as reconditioning of the mechanical equipment.
Pro-Auditorio President John Keeling reports that the group is operating with an $US8,000 kitty it put in the bank from this year’s annual Lip Sync benefit show, but needs to come up with the outstanding balance of $US10,000 to finish the project.
