On Sunday, January 24, the guest speaker at Lakeside Presbyterian Church will be Pastor Max DeBeeson.  His message is entitled “A Church With Vision.” Pastor DeBeeson takes as his texts Proverbs 29:18 and Acts 20:20. Worship begins at 10 a.m.

Following the service, the congregation is invited to remain for fellowship and refreshments.

Lakeside Presbyterian Church is on San Jorge in Riberas. Just turn toward the lake at Mom’s Restaurant and go two blocks – the church is on the right.

New Hope Christian

The congregation of the New Hope Christian Fellowship will meet at the home of its president on Sunday, January 24, 11 a.m. The worship service will be preceded by a refreshment period beginning at 10:45 a.m.

Along with children’s Bible time, hymns and prayers, Pastor Gene Raymer will deliver the message, “David, the Good Christian.”

“While we look back on Jesus as the Messiah, David looked forward to that same thing,” the pastor explains.

Following the worship service, fellowship continues with a meal at a local restaurant.

New Hope Christian Fellowship uses the first century church as its model. All Christian believers are welcomed. For more information about the church or directions to the meeting place call the pastor at 376-766-3435.

Unitarian Universalists

JoAnn Flanagan and Paulette Lichtman-Panzer from Burke, Virginia will present “Where Everybody Knows Our Name” at the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalists Sunday, January 24.

The theme reflects on the many reasons and ways UU Communities provide support and care for each other.

The Unitarian Universalists have an enhanced personal sound system to help those with hearing issues during their Sunday services.  Attendees may use headphones or ear buds connected to an FM radio or FM capable cell phone.

The Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalists are an English-speaking, lay-led fellowship that meets every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. on the west side of Ajijic in Plaza de la Ribera, Rio Bravo 10A, in a wheelchair-accessible facility.

Lake Chapala Baptist

Says Brother Bob Hendrick of Lake Chapala Baptist: “We would like politics or programs or pep talks to fix our economies, environment, and emotions. James, Jesus’ little brother, says prayer, praise, and particularly participating in a praying church, is the way through tough times. Now, an important principle for individual or church is: Prayer and praise are not excuses for laziness. Pray as if all depends on God and work as if all depends on us. Prayer is not talking God into something that he ordinarily would not want to do. It is not giving God instructions as much as it is reporting for duty. What I say to God is not nearly as important as what God says to me. One of the best prayers I ever heard began, ‘Holy Spirit, tell me what to pray.’”

Attend the service at the Lake Chapala Baptist Church on Sunday, January 24, 11 a.m. The church is at Santa Margarita 179 in Riberas del Pilar.

Christ Church Episcopal

Christ Church Episcopal will observe the Third Sunday after Epiphany by celebrating the Holy Eucharist, Rite II, at the Little Chapel by the Lake on Sunday, January 24, 9:30 a.m.

Christ Church Vicar Fr. Danny Borkowski will preside and give a message with the theme “The Existential Messiah,” based on Luke 4:14-21.

The Congregations of Christ Church and the Little Chapel share a common coffee fellowship between their respective services from 10:35 until 11:10 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

The Tuesday Bible Study sponsored by Christ Church continues with the study of John’s Gospel.

St. Andrew’s Anglican

As Jesus’ first sermon is remembered at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Fr. Winston Welty’s sermon, “You Gotta Have Rules,” suggests that the law as expressed by Jesus is a far cry from our usual notions of law. Rather than confining or limiting, His version of law always frees and heals.

Worship begins Sunday, January 24, 10 a.m., the children’s bilingual Sunday School is at 9:45 a.m., and “Coffee Hour” in the Garden follows the worship service.

All men of the parish are welcome for lunch at noon on Wednesday, at Pranzo in La Floresta.

Every Sunday, the feeding program supported by St. Andrew’s welcomes donations of non-perishable food items, which can be left in the baskets by the Church doors.

St. Andrew’s is at Calle San Lucas 19, a block south of the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar.

San Andres English

Agents of Mercy is the sermon on Sunday, January 24, 9 a.m. at the English-language Mass held at San Andres Catholic Church in Ajijic.

Says Fr. Basil G. Royston, D. Min.: “United as one in the Body of Christ, his Church, we each have a crucial role in being agents of Christ’s mercy.  The extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy’s focus on the works of mercy is a great opportunity for the Church to reach out to all our brothers and sisters.”

San Andres Roman Catholic Church is located at the corner of Ramon Corona and Parroquia, one block from the Ajijic main plaza.
