Weekly Worship - July 30, 2016

Unitarians

The Sunday, July 24 service of the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, led by Mardele Harland, is a special participatory book-sharing service.

It provides an opportunity to share information about a book you have read which has touched, challenged, informed or inspired you.

Sunday, July 31, Teresa Sande will talk on “Perceptual Opportunities” about the blessing and the curse of first impressions.  Lew Crippen is the service leader.

The Unitarians meet 10:30 a.m. at Hidalgo 261 in Riberas del Pilar, opposite the bell tower, on the north side of the Carretera.

Lakeside Presbyterian

One of the great stories of the Old Testament tells of the confrontation between the Prophet Elijah and the false prophets of the pagan god Baal.  After Elijah taunts his opponents when their god does not answer their cries, the God Yahweh immediately answers his request, proving that He alone is truly God.

Sunday, July 31, Pastor Ross Arnold of Lakeside Presbyterian Church continues his “Great Adventure” series with a sermon entitled “He Has Not Been Silent,” considering how God has chosen to make Himself known to us.

The Lakeside Presbyterian congregation meets in their new church building in Riberas del Pilar. Turn toward the lake on Calle San Jorge at Mom’s Restaurant. The church is two blocks on the right. English-language services at 10 a.m. and Spanish-language services at 9 a.m. and noon. Everyone is welcome.

St. Andrew’s Anglican

Sometimes it’s easy to wish Jesus had stuck to religion and not meddled around in things like how people choose their goals and handle their assets. But He won’t cooperate. Instead, He tells a story about a man who Fr. Winston Welty refers to as “An Empty Builder of Full Barns.” Both the story and the sermon suggest an approach to material life that is at odds with the way most of us actually live.

Sunday worship at St. Andrew’s begins with the Holy Eucharist at 10 a.m., and is preceded by the children’s bilingual Sunday School at 9:45 a.m. A coffee hour in the garden follows the worship service.

On the last Sunday of each month, donations provide lunches for Mezcala schoolchildren. And every Sunday, the feeding programs supported by St. Andrew’s welcome donations of non-perishable food items, left in the baskets by the Church doors.

Saturday, August 6, 11 a.m., the Rt. Rev. Lino Rodriguez Amaro, Bishop of the Diocese of Western Mexico, will ordain the Rev. Robbin Del Nagro to the priesthood of the Anglican Church. The community is cordially invited.

St. Andrew’s is at Calle San Lucas 19, a block south of the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar.

Little Chapel by the Lake

“A Man on a Mission,” as taken from the book of Acts 16:1-18, is the message that Pastor Jonathan Admire will deliver at the Sunday, July 31 Praise and Worship service of Little Chapel by the Lake.

“On the road again, just can’t wait to get on the road again,” says Admire, who highlights the Apostle Paul as he sets out on his second missionary journey. “Paul meets Timothy and develops a relationship that will prove very meaningful in his future. Also, a lady who was a worshiper of God, a girl being used for evil, and a prison guard all have a chance encounter with Paul that changes the course of their lives.”

Wednesday, August 3, 6 p.m. Little Chapel will show the movie: Darren Wilson’s documentary, “Furious Love.” Popcorn and refreshments are provided.

The Little Chapel is located at Carretera 10 in Chula Vista. Fellowship time on Sunday is from 11 to 11:30 a.m., with the worship service starting at 11:30 a.m. For more information, call 766-2538.

Lake Chapala Baptist

Brother Bob Hendrick will talk on “A parable of rubber boots” at the Lake Chapala Baptist Church on Sunday, July 31.

“I find that boots seldom used will surprise you with their uselessness when you need them,” Hendrick says. “This week, at the ranch, I set a pump in the pond to aerate the water. To do so I put on my best rubber boots, the ones I haven’t used in a while. One of them leaked, not enough to stop and change boots ... at first. But as the water level in the boot rose and the sun descended, I feared the tide in my boot might go out an I be caught in an ‘under-toe.’ The point: Rubber boots and relationships (with people and with God) need to be kept up. The little leaks will let in what should be kept out. And, just drying out is as harmful as a puncture.”

The Lake Chapala Baptist Church celebrates worship service each Sunday, 11 a.m. at Santa Margarita 147 in Riberas del Pilar.

New Hope Christian

The congregation of New Hope Christian Fellowship will meet Sunday, July 31, 11 a.m. in the upper room of the Presbyterian Church.  Along with hymns of thanksgiving and praise, scripture readings and prayers, Pastor Gene Raymer will deliver a message he has given the title “Never Give Up.” The pastor points out that several characters in the Bible felt as if they were at the end of their rope. But by trusting God, they were delivered.  The pastor plans to concentrate this week on Paul’s second letter to the Corinthian Church and his delivery when it seemed that he might even die.

New Hope Christian Fellowship is a Bible based congregation seeking to “keep it simple.” They follow the scriptures as written prior to all the divisive doctrinal concepts that were added centuries later. For more information about the church or its location, call the pastor at 766-3435 or 333-724-6179.

Christ Church Episcopal

The congregation of Christ Church Episcopal will observe the Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost on July 31 by taking their church-in-a-box to La Sagrada Familia Mission in Mazamitla and celebrating The Holy Eucharist with them at noon (in Spanish).  Those who wish to attend should gather at Farmacia Guadalajara in Ajijic at 9 a.m. and then leave in convoy.  Fr. Danny Borkowski will preside and give a message with the theme “You Have Died” based on Colossians 3:1-11.

People are encouraged to bring sandwiches and salads to share with the folks gathered there after the service.

Christ Church sponsors a Bible Study Tuesday, 2 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the Little Chapel by the Lake, Carretera 10, in Chula Vista.  Spend an hour tackling the Book of Revelation.

San Andres English

“Today our thoughts are on heavenly things, not on the things of earth, where without Christ all is vanity and great injustice.”

So says Fr. Basil G. Royston, D. Min., who will offer the homily “Christ Who is Everything and is in Everything” at San Andres Catholic Church’s English-language service Sunday, July 31, 9 a.m.

San Andres is located at the corner of Ramon Corona and Parroquia, one block from the Ajijic main plaza.

St. Mark’s Anglican, Guadalajara

At the 10:30 a.m. English-language worship service on Sunday, July 31, Father Jim Priddy will talk about the prophet Hosea, the so-called “prophet of love.” He will be looking at what Hosea has got to do with the prodigal son. The congregation will also be celebrating the last Sunday of worship with Trino Palomero, who is going to Sonora to begin working at a church after he is ordained as a deacon. A special reception dinner for Trino will be held after the 12:30 p.m. Spanish-language service in the rectory hall.

St. Mark’s is located at Chichimecas 836, corner of Aztecas, a two-minute drive north of Plaza Mexico, in Colonia Monraz.

HU Chant

Chanting HU, an ancient name for the Divine, while in a contemplative state, is a simple technique to open your heart to greater happiness, love, inner peace and understanding.  Join them Saturday August 6, 10:30 a.m., at the Center for Spiritual Living located at Nicholas Bravo 17, Ajijic, for a 30-minute group HU Chant followed by refreshments and fellowship time.  For more information, contact Hallie Shepherd at 766-3656 or This email address is being protected from spambots.
