St. Andrew’s Anglican

The Rt. Rev. Lino Rodriguez Amaro, Bishop of the Diocese of Western Mexico, will ordain The Rev. Robbin Del Nagro to the priesthood of the Anglican Church on Saturday, August 6, 11 a.m. The community is cordially invited.

“I can’t wait until …” However we finish that sentence, it likely points to something unfinished in our life, or something we want, or something we think will make things better if it ever arrives. But there’s a big difference between waiting and waiting around. Fr. Winston Welty’s sermon, “Waiting for the Setting Sun,” focuses on the way in which people of faith are called to wait, and in particular what it means to wait for God.

Worship, Sunday, August 7, at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church begins with the Holy Eucharist at 10 a.m., and is preceded by the children’s bilingual Sunday School at 9:45 a.m., and followed by a coffee hour in the garden. Every Sunday, the feeding programs supported by St. Andrew’s welcome donations of non-perishable items, left in the baskets by the church doors.

The monthly breakfast of the “Company of Gentlemen” welcomes into fellowship the men of the parish and the community Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. in the church kitchen.

St. Andrew’s is at Calle San Lucas 19, a block south of the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar.

Unitarians

At the Sunday, August 7 service of the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, Kathy Koches will give the presentation “Rain and Renewal.” Koches discusses how we need to stop every now and then and let our spirits be refreshed and renewed, much like how rain renews the earth. Bob Koches is the service leader.

The Unitarians meet 10:30 a.m. at Hidalgo 261 in Riberas del Pilar, opposite the bell tower, on the north side of the Carretera.

Lakeside Presbyterian

The first chapter of the Gospel of John is perhaps the most beautiful and important passage in the entire Bible. In it the Apostle John gives us a summary of the Gospel message in just a few words.

Sunday, August 7, Pastor Ross Arnold of Lakeside Presbyterian Church will speak on “The Whole Truth,” considering how John shows us all the riches of God’s mercy to us.

The Lakeside Presbyterian congregation meets in their new church building in Riberas del Pilar. Turn toward the lake on Calle San Jorge at Mom’s Restaurant. The church is two blocks on the right. English-language services at 10 a.m. and Spanish-language services at 9 a.m. and noon. Everyone is welcome.

Little Chapel by the Lake

Pastor Jonathan Admire will will be speaking from Acts 17:16-33 at the Sunday, August 7 Praise and Worship service of Little Chapel by the Lake.

“This week we pick up the story in Athens where Paul is provoked in his spirit over all the idols in the city,” says Admire.  “The sermon on Mars hill becomes one of Paul’s most famous talks and still has relevant implications for us today.  Come join us this Sunday for worship and the study of God’s Word.”

The Little Chapel is located at Carretera 10 in Chula Vista. Fellowship time with coffee and refreshments on Sunday is from 11 to 11:30 a.m., with the worship service starting at 11:30 a.m. For more information, call 766-2538.

Lake Chapala Baptists

Says Brother Bob Hendrick: “When I work on my 1948 Ford tractor, I often go to my shop manuals. I have a couple of them by different publishers. The two manuals that I have use different words to describe how to fix and maintain the old tractor. One may use drawings and the other photographs to show parts on the engine or chassis. But what makes each of them valuable is that they are both about the same equipment. Language and presentation have changed, but that ‘chunk of iron’ is still the same. I use several modern translations of the Bible. They are all translations of the Book for which we have more manuscripts than any other ancient book. They use different language, but each of them has God as its author, Jesus as its subject, salvation for its end, and truth for its matter … things that do not change.”

The Lake Chapala Baptist Church celebrates worship service each Sunday, 11 a.m. at Santa Margarita 147 in Riberas del Pilar.

New Hope Christian

The non-denominational congregation of New Hope Christian Fellowship will begin the new month with its regular schedule of worship. Coffee will be served at 10:45 a.m. giving everyone an opportunity to greet one another and meet new attendees.

At 11 a.m. the worship service will begin with a welcome and prayer. Hymns of praise will follow as well as prayers for those in need of God’s special blessing. Pastor Gene Raymer will deliver a message he has given the title “What’s Wrong With What’s Right?”

Says Raymer: “It’s election year in the United States and for the next three months those of us who watch U.S. television will be inundated with people telling us what’s wrong with every candidate from the local dog catcher to the president. Jesus, on the other hand, saw potential in all those with whom he came into contact. We should be doing the same.”

A fellowship lunch at a local restaurant will follow the service.

New Hope Christian Fellowship seeks to emulate the spirit of the first century Christian church. “We base our beliefs and practices on those taught in the Bible,” says Raymer.  “We seek to apply those beliefs and practices in the world in which we find ourselves.”

For more information or directions to the service, call the pastor at 376-766-3435 or 333-724-6179.

Christ Church Episcopal

The congregation of Christ Church Episcopal will observe the Twelfth Sunday after Pentecost by celebrating the Holy Eucharist Sunday, August 7, 9:30 a.m. at the Little Chapel by the Lake, located at Carretera 10 in Chula Vista.

Fr. Danny Borkowski will preside, and Warden Jim Powers will give a message with the theme “Don’t Worry and Be Prepared” based on Luke 12:32-40.

The congregations of Christ Church Episcopal and the Little Chapel by the Lake share a common fellowship time between their two services, from about 10:35 to 11:25 a.m.

Christ Church sponsors a Bible Study Tuesdays, 2 p.m. in the Little Chapel fellowship hall.  The group will not meet on August 9, but resume on August 16.

San Andres English

“The Lord has chosen us to be His people. Though a little flock, our history goes back into the dim and distant past. The God we worship is the God if Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. We also look forward in hope to a glorious future in the Kingdom of our Father.”

So says Fr. Basil G. Royston, D. Min., who will offer the homily “The Lord Our God” at San Andres Catholic Church’s English-language service Sunday, August 7, 9 a.m.

This Sunday, children of the Villa Infantil orphanage will sing parts of the Mass.  The congregation of San Andres English will also initiate the Backpack-to-School program in an effort to help send the children to school with a new backpack, school supplies and new uniforms. This is in conjunction with San Andres English congregation’s first Sunday of the month food drive, which collects non-perishable food items, toilet tissue, cleaning products and the like to help support the children at Villa Infantil.

San Andres is located at the corner of Ramon Corona and Parroquia, one block from the Ajijic main plaza.

St. Mark’s Anglican, Guadalajara

In his sermon “No Blood Please,” Sunday, August 7, at the English-language worship service, Father Jim Priddy will continue to study the prophets, looking at First Isaiah.

St. Mark’s holds its Sunday service in English at 10:30 a.m. with choir practice at 9:45 a.m. People from the community are encouraged to join the choir. St. Mark’s is located at Chichimecas 836, corner of Aztecas, a two-minute drive north of Plaza Mexico, in Colonia Monraz.
