St. Andrew’s Anglican

Come to St. Andrew’s Anglican Church Sunday, September 18 and hear Deacon Don Snell’s sermon about “The Dishonest Steward,” a man who suffers public disgrace but does not hide in a hole. Jesus tells us not to run away from our troubles, but to take bold action and do what we can to help others. While we may question the actions of the steward, Snell says there is a lesson to be learned from him.

Worship begins at 10 a.m., the bilingual children’s Sunday School starts at 9:45 and a coffee hour, a time of fellowship and welcome, follows the service.

Every Sunday, the feeding programs supported by St. Andrew’s welcome donations of non-perishable items.  Boxed milk and empty cardboard egg cartons are especially appreciated.

Whenever you want to get rid of something, anything, don’t forget the Todo Bueno resale shop! Every donation or consignment made benefits the outreach ministry of the church. It doesn’t matter if it is clothing, kitchenware, electronics, bric-a-brac, furniture, appliances, books, collectibles, etc. One person’s trash is someone else’s treasure and bringing it to Todo Bueno enables St. Andrew’s to support a multitude of charities around Lakeside. Located on the highway next to S&S Auto in Riberas. Open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

St. Andrew’s is at Calle San Lucas 19, a block south of the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar.

Lake Chapala Baptist

Says Brother Bob Hendrick: “Monday be talk like a scurvy pirate day. I be glad ‘t dasn’t come on a Sundee. Th’ good church folks be havin’ enough trouble makin’ ou’ what I be sayin’ in Texan … the horn swogglin’ bilge rats! Yes, Monday the nineteenth of September is International Talk Like A Pirate Day. I have been observing it since I was made aware of it about ten years ago. Of course, my sprinkling a few ‘AARGH’s’ and ‘matey’s’ in my conversation does not make me a pirate any more than someone talking ‘Christianese’ makes them a follower of Jesus. Jesus said, ‘If you love me, keep my commandments.’ And He asked, ‘Why do you call me Lord but don’t do what I tell you?’ I can participate in talk-like-a-pirate day. I really couldn’t take part in BE a pirate day.  Oh, here is some more pirate talk: ‘Oh yes, it has English subtitles.’ Bless your barnacle bitten self.”

Hendrick will give the sermon at this Sunday’s 11 a.m. worship service at the Lake Chapala Baptist Church, at Santa Margarita 147 in Riberas del Pilar.

Unitarian Universalist

Sunday, September 18, the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship celebrates Mexican Independence Day. For this celebration the San Juan Cosala Children’s Choir under the direction of Danny Medeles will sing Mexican songs of the revolution. Kathy Kochesis the service leader.

Lakeside Presbyterian

On Sunday, September 18, Pastor Ross Arnold continues his series on spiritual gifts with a sermon entitled “Gifts of Service.” When we think of spiritual gifts many of us picture the visible up-front gifts like preaching or teaching. But in fact some of the most important gifts given by the Holy Spirit are “behind-the-scenes” gifts like service, giving or administration. Do you have one of these gifts of service? Join the worship at Lakeside Presbyterian and find out.

The lecture series on “A History of Western Thought: Why We Think the Way We Do” continues on Friday mornings at 11 a.m., right after the 9:45 a.m. Bible study. The men of the church will meet for breakfast on Tuesday, September 20, at Sunrise Restaurant on the Carretera.

The Lakeside Presbyterian congregation meets in their church building in Riberas del Pilar. Turn toward the lake on Calle San Jorge at Mom’s Restaurant. The church is two blocks on the right. English-language services at 10 a.m. and Spanish-language services at 9 a.m. and noon.

New Hope Christian

The non-denominational congregation of New Hope Christian Fellowship will keep its regular schedule of worship on Sunday, September 18.  The 10:45 a.m. coffee time will be followed by a service of worship and praise for God’s goodness. To illustrate this, Pastor Gene Raymer will deliver a message from Exodus showing God’s greatness to those who stand firm in the faith. The fellowship will continue with a meal at Tony’s Restaurant following the service.

The group meets weekly in the upper room of the Presbyterian church at 11 a.m. They seek to emulate the disciplines of the first century Christian church void of the schisms that occurred in later centuries and at the same time give credence to the writings of the Old Testament just as Jesus did.
