Weekly Worship - April 29, 2017

Abundant Life

Why is there such a wide range of beliefs when it comes to the position of women in the church? One church says they can´t be in leadership while another has a woman pastor.

When looking for opinions about the position of women in ministry there are no shortage. Sunday, April 30, Pastor Gary Neighbor will pull the answer to this question from the scriptures. Can women be in leadership? Come this Sunday to hear God´s response.

Abundant Life Church is affiliated with the Assemblies of God of Mexico and has services for everyone. An English-language worship service is held each Sunday, 10 a.m. and Bible study Wednesday, 3 p.m. Spanish-language services are Sunday, noon. Spanish-language Bible studies are on Wednesday, 6:45 p.m. A children’s ministry is held Saturday, noon and the youth meet Sunday, 6:30 p.m.

Abundant Life Church is located at Carretera Chapala-Jocotepec 140, San Antonio Tlayacapan, a block from SuperLake. For more information, call 331-417-7038 (cel).

St. Andrew’s Anglican

This Sunday at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Fr. Andrew Krumbhaar’s sermon will take us “From Here to Emmaus,” on the road where the risen Christ revealed himself to two of his followers. The two were grieving the death of their Lord, and did not recognize the stranger they met while traveling, but they invited him to eat with them.  It was during that meal that their eyes were opened, and Fr. Krumbhaar will remind us that we, too, walk the road to Emmaus every Sunday. Worship begins 10 a.m., the bilingual children’s Sunday School is at 9:45 a.m. and a coffee hour – a time of fellowship and welcome – follows the service.

On the last Sunday of each month, donations provide lunches for Mezcala schoolchildren. And every Sunday, the feeding programs supported by St. Andrew’s welcome donations of non-perishable food items.  Boxed milk and empty cardboard egg cartons are especially welcome, in addition to rice, beans, pasta, oil, and salt.

Every donation or consignment you make to St. Andrew’s Todo Bueno resale shop benefits the outreach ministry of the church. Clothing, kitchenware, electronics, bric-a-brac, furniture, appliances, books, collectibles, etcetera — your trash is someone else’s treasure. Todo Bueno is located on the highway next to S&S Auto in Riberas del Pilar, open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. except Sunday.

St. Andrew’s is located at Calle San Lucas 19, just a block south of the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar.

Little Chapel by the Lake

Pastor Ken Armstrong says, “Too often, doing church has become a battle for market share, and a need to be ‘more right’ than anyone else. Little Chapel just wants to be known as the people who share God’s love.”

On Sunday, April 30, Pastor Armstrong throws down a very old challenge in his message “Let’s Not Do Church” drawn from Acts 2 and 1 Thessalonians 5.

A free movie night and matinee are held Friday, April 28, 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 29, 1 p.m., when the award-winning film “Queen of Katwe,” based on a true story, will be shown. Free popcorn and drinks. Bring your own snacks.

The Little Chapel is located in the historic stone church building in Chula Vista, at Carretera Chapala-Ajijic 10.

Non-denominational, English-language Sunday worship service is at 11 a.m. Everyone is invited to stay for a friendly potluck meal after the service. For more information, call 766-2538 or 332-186-0417 (cel), or visit LittleChapelChapala.org.

Dr. Inez Dayer, a lay reader, will preside and give a message with the theme “Who Knows?” based on Luke 24:13-35.

Refreshments will be available before the service, starting at 9 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

Bible Study meets Tuesday, May, 2 p.m., in the Fellowship Hall. The group will begin to dig into Paul’s letters in chronological order.

The Little Chapel is located in Chula Vista, at Carretera Chapala-Ajijic 10.

Home Church Int’l

One thing we do in home churches is worship and share face-to-face. That’s a key advantage to small group intimacy. What an advantage to real unified fellowship. Hard to do with a hat or back of a head in front of you.  Home Church International enjoys the openness and freedom to worship and grow spiritually together. Pastors Paul and Susana Allen encourage the fellowship without fear. It is a journey without judgment. It is growth with the Gospel, the good news. It is encouragement in the faith via intimate fellowship.  Questions and even challenges are frequent and welcome.

The meetings close with snacks and great fellowship.

Lake Chapala Baptist

Gary Bailey, AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame inductee 1999, taught motocross schools. He taught at least one in Houston at Rio Bravo. He watched people practice the day before his school. The next day he singled out one rider in the group and said, “I watched you yesterday and you were fast.” The rider’s chest swelled. Bailey continued, “But, you rode for a couple of hours and did not learn anything. You took the same lines all the time. You never tried a different braking point. You hit the berm at the same place every time. You went fast and you never wrecked, but you never got faster.” He was like the school teacher who claimed twenty years experience. But since she had taught the same class in the same way for all her years of teaching, someone argued that she had one year’s experience twenty times. It is not too late to try some different lines walking with the Lord.

Brother Bob Hendrick will give the sermon at the worship service of the Lake Chapala Baptist Church, Sunday, April 30, 11 a.m. It is located at Santa Margarita 147, Riberas del Pilar.

Jewish Congregation

Shabbat Torah services are held the first and third Saturday of the month, 10 a.m., and Shabbat evening services and potluck every second and fourth Friday, 6 p.m. at the Lake Chapala Jewish Congregation. The synagogue is located at Sta. Margarita 113, Riberas del Pilar (mountainside of the Carretera, diagonally across from Mom’s Restaurant). Call (376) 766-2668 or see lakesidejews.com.
