Good Samaritans are rallying to help cover emergency medical bills for long-time resident Barbara Madren, who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.
Madren is widely recognized as the “queen of ticket sales” for Lake Chapala Society and American Legion benefit events. Close friends are now reaching out to the community to return the favor for her good works by contributing to the kitty of 120,000 pesos needed to pay for the mastectomy surgery she will undergo in the next few weeks.
The campaign started this week with a chicken dinner fund-raiser held May 25 at Legion Post 7.
