Candians living on the north shore of Lake Chapala will host a special 150th anniversary celebration, Saturday, July 1, at La Casa del Musico in San Antonio Tlayacapan. Sponsored collectively by the Canadian Club of Lake Chapala and the Chapala Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, the party will be the biggest Canadian event held at Lakeside, according to Canadian Club President Barbara Wills. “It will be fun and festive without too much protocol,” she said, “but we encourage Canadians to show their pride and wear their Canadiana.”
Doors open at noon, with entertainment by DJ Phil and a sit-down dinner of of BBQ chicken and ribs served at your table by Adelita’s staff at 1:30 p.m. Music for dancing is by Mike and the Suspects beginning 3 p.m. There will be door prizes and a raffle for a BBQ grill.
A video of Lakeside Canadian residents and their Mexican neighbors in villages from across Lake Chapala’s north shore wishing Canada a happy 150th anniversary will be one of the highlights of the event in San Antonio July 1. The video was the idea of of Chapala Royal Canadian Legion President John Kelly, who procured funding from the Canadian Embassy’s Canada 150 project fund for Mexico. The video was produced by Videaspro, a Chapala-based company run by Citlali, Javier and Abiam Ramirez and Juan Carlos Solis.
Honored guests include Chapala’s Mayor, his top staff and Canadian Consul Stéphane Charbonneau.

La Casa del Musico is located at Calle La Paz 59, one block south and half a block east of Adelita’s restaurant. Parking will be at a lot about a block away on the west side of Calle La Paz.
