Big new boost to youngsters’ virtuous circle

Aquaponics, a “virtuous circle” of innovative agriculture by youngsters in Ixtlahuacan has just landed a 10,500-peso boost.

pg13bAs part of the Lake Chapala Garden Club’s fortieth birthday celebrations, the club donated a giant check to help the youngsters of Hope House develop a revolutionary sustainable food system. The refuge aims to give a safe and loving home and a Christian-led education to abandoned, abused orphaned and poverty stricken boys.

“We are so excited to have the chance to enhance the highly worthwhile and sustainable aquaponics enterprise at Hope House.

“It combines raising tanks of fish and using the effluent to cultivate plants hydroponically in this water packed with vital nutrients,” said Garden Club President Judie Keck.

This is just one of the organization’s elements in the well-rounded education given to 22 young men at Hope House.
