Authorites from the lakeside branch of the Secretaria de Movilidad and the San Francisco Parish have announced modifications in traffic circulation that will be in effect Sunday, July 9 in conjunction with the Virgen de Zapopan’s summer pilgrimage.
The north-to-south bound lane of Avenida Madero will be closed to through traffic from 7 a.m. until noon to allow passage of the traditional street procession. Vehicles left parked along of the restricted lane of Madero will be subject to towing.
Incoming traffic will be deverted at the traffic light just past Soriana to follow an alternate route to Avenida González Gallo and the Chapala-Mezcala highway via Avenida Pepe Guizar. Vehicles entering town from the highway to Ajijic along Hidalgo will also be stopped for the duration of the procession. Both lanes of Madero between the Hidalgo intersection and the waterfront will be blocked from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Public transportation bus routes will likewise be altered to circumvent the downtown area from 9:30 a.m. until the festivities subside at midday.
