Weekly Worship - July 15, 2017

Lakeside Presbyterian

“It is easy to trust God when you are healthy, wealthy and wise. Can we still trust Him when we are sick, broke and confused? This challenging question faces believer and non believer alike regardless of age, status or experience.”

Dr. Wayne Cook, minister of Congregational Care, will present a message based on Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trusting in God when you don’t understand,” at the Sunday, July 16 service of the Lakeside Presbyterian Church.

Lakeside Presbyterian is located at San Jorge 250 in Riberas del Pilar. Turn toward the lake at Mom’s Restaurant and the church is two blocks down on the right. English-language services begin each Sunday, 10 a.m. and Spanish-language services are 9 a.m. and noon. Everyone is welcome.

Little Chapel by the Lake

Says Pastor Ken Armstrong: “Many Christians like to think of themselves as perfect, but perfection in this life is more of a journey than a destination.” Sunday, July 16, Pastor Armstrong will elaborate on this theme in his message: “That Thing About Being Perfect,” drawn from Matthew 5.

The non-denominational, English-language Sunday worship service is at 11 a.m. Everyone is invited to stay for a friendly comida (church meal) after the service.

Little Chapel is also open Wednesdays from 1 to 3 p.m. for silent prayer and worship in the sanctuary and memorial prayer garden. Everyone is welcome.

For more information, see the display ad in this section.

Lake Chapala Baptist

Says Brother Bob Hendrick: “When we look at the Bible, Old and New Testament, we see that Noah’s ark is a good picture of salvation in Jesus Christ. The Old Testament tells us that God called Noah into the ark (as opposed to sending him). It tells us that God closed Noah in the ark. So, Noah could fall down inside the ark but he could not fall out. The proportions of the ark are those of a coffin. To be saved is to die to self and be made alive in Christ. And the ark did not have a helm. Noah submitted to God’s navigation. Before Noah entered the ark, he had nothing. After being saved by God by means of the ark, he had the whole world.”

Sunday, July 16, 11 a.m., Brother Hendrick will give the sermon at the worship service of the Lake Chapala Baptist Church, located at Santa Margarita 147, Riberas del Pilar.

Christ Church Episcopal

Christ Church Episcopal, a mission of the Diocese of the West in the Anglican Church of Mexico, will observe the sixth Sunday after Pentecost, July 16, 9:30 a.m. with Holy Communion at the Little Chapel by the Lake. Refreshments will be available before the service, starting at 9 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

The Lunch Bunch will meet 11:15 a.m. at Café Negro.

Bible study will meet Tuesday, July 18, 2 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the Little Chapel and continue to explore Paul’s letters in chronological order.

Christ Church reminds its members to park on the Ajijic side of the paved and grassy parking area.

Unitarian Universalists

Sunday, July 16, Mardele Harland will facilitate a participatory “Book Share” service at the meeting of the Lakeside Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. A listing of the books shared will be compiled and made available following the service.

Abundant Life

Says Pastor Gary Neighbor: “Everyone is unique. The goal of some is to try to change us into clones that recite the same things over and over again. The Bible is full of examples of individuals who were different from the rest and God used them. Come Sunday, July 16, to see who you can be different and have a life that is different from the rest and still obey God the way he needs to be.”

Abundant Life Church is affiliated with the Assemblies of God of Mexico and has services for everyone. An English-language worship service is held each Sunday, 10 a.m. and Bible Study Wednesday, 3 p.m. Spanish-language services are Sunday at noon. St. Andrew’s Anglican

This Sunday at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, “the Gospel tells us about Jesus’s selection of his 12 disciples, and how he gave them the authority to cast out spirits and cure diseases.”

A guest choir from San Juan Cosala, Coro de la Orquesta Filarmonica Infantil de la Ribera de Chapala, will lead the congregation in song.

Worship begins at 10 a.m., the bilingual children’s Sunday School starts at 9:45 a.m. and a coffee hour – a time of fellowship and welcome – follows the service.

Home Church Int’l

Say Pastors Paul and Susana Allen: “To continue with the doctrines and beliefs of our ministry, the center of involvement with Almighty God is by the experience and acknowledgement of His position to us and His interaction with us through His Holy Spirit. This has been touched on lightly in previous sharing. The one, true living God, Jehovah, is Creator, Sustainer, Lord, Master, King, Judge, and much more. Seeing this and knowing Him as our Heavenly Father, His place is and will be firm in His Kingdom. Therefore, to interact personally with His creation, He wills His presence with us in the person of His Holy Spirit.  To do His guiding, revealing, and miracles, we thus begin to sense His greatness through the Spirit. He operates in and with us, His creations, in the power of His Spirit. God’s plan is not merely as an architect and builder, but with design to share His purpose with us.”
