Chupinaya race supports noble causes

Ivan Romero and Ricardo González, head honchos for Ajijic’s Chupinaya mountain race, show off the commemorative T-shirt that will be handed out to the 700 runners heading for the hills Sunday, July 16.

The  stunning Alebrije image created by Alvaro Moreno of Siker design shop represents local flora and fauna and the crazed dreams of the competitors to tackle one of the world’s toughest mountain trails.

The black background honors the memory of Ana Vanessa Ortiz, Victor Reyes Rosales and Pamela Avila Rivera, Mexican runners who lost their lives in separate racing events over the past year.  The race is also supporting conservation of the Tepalo-Chupinaya hiking trail and a bracelet sale to raise funds for kids afflicted with cerebral palsy.
