Weekly Worship - July 22, 2017

St. Andrew’s Anglican

This week at St Andrew’s Anglican Church we will ask the question that is as old as time itself, “Why is there evil in the world?”

In the parable of the wheat and the weeds, Jesus states that wheat and weeds grow together until the final harvest.

The Rev. Bryan Beveridge will offer thoughts about the place that wheat and weeds occupy within each of us, and will offer a way forward as we meet and greet each other in our walk of life. Worship begins at 10 a.m., and the bilingual children’s Sunday School starts at 9:45 a.m.  “Coffee Hour,” a time of fellowship and welcome, follows the service.

Every Sunday, the feeding programs supported by St. Andrew’s welcome donations of non-perishable food items.  Boxed milk and empty cardboard egg cartons are especially welcome, in addition to rice, beans, pasta, oil, and salt.

If you’ve ever wanted to sing in the choir just for fun, now is your chance.  There will be a “pick-up” choir this Sunday.   No special clothes, no pressure – just be at church by 9 a.m. to learn the music.

Whenever you want to get rid of something, don’t forget our resale shop, Todo Bueno.  Every donation or consignment you make benefits the Outreach ministry of the church.  It doesn’t matter what it is. Bringing it to Todo Bueno enables St. Andrew’s to support a multitude of charities around Lakeside. It is located on the highway next to S&S Auto in Riberas del Pilar.  The store is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. except Sunday.

St. Andrew’s is located at Calle San Lucas 19, just a block south of the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar.

Jewish Congregation

Shabbat Torah services are held the first and third Saturday of the month, 10 a.m., and Shabbat evening services and potluck every second and fourth Friday, 6 p.m. at the Lake Chapala Jewish Congregation. Contact us for our summer schedule.

Christ Church Episcopal

Christ Church Episcopal (CCE), a mission of the Diocese of the West in the Anglican Church of Mexico, will observe the Seventh Sunday After Pentecost on July 23, with Holy Communion from the Reserved Sacrament at 9:30 a.m. in the Little Chapel by the Lake The Rev. Danny Borkowski or Deacon Jim Powers will preside, while Conley Stamper will give a message with the theme “The Good Sower” based on Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43.

The Lunch Bunch will meet at the Lake Taco Restaurant at 11:15 a.m.

The Bible Study group will not meet in the Little Chapel Fellowship Hall on Tuesday July 25.  It will resume upon the return of Borkowski from Texas.  At that time the group will continue its exploration of Paul’s letters in chronological order.

Lake Chapala Baptist

Says Brother Bob Hendrick:  “‘Infobesity’ is defined as having so much information it makes making a logical decision difficult. In 2009 a study found that the average American consumes 34 gigabytes of content and 100,000 words every day. Research says, since then, social media has added another 54,000 words a day. The words are produced because people are willing to consume them. Many believe the myth that ‘knowing the news’ empowers us, gives us control. The Bible says that knowing the Truth will set you free. Biblical truth isn’t just words. It is a person and he sets you free to give up control.”

Sunday, July 23, 11 a.m., Brother Hendrick will give the sermon at the worship service of the Lake Chapala Baptist Church, located at Santa Margarita 147, Riberas del Pilar.

Lakeside Presbyterian

John Whitener will be presenting the sermon at the Sunday, July 23 service of the Lakeside Presbyterian Church.

Lakeside Presbyterian is located at San Jorge 250 in Riberas del Pilar. Turn toward the lake at Mom’s Restaurant and the church is two blocks down on the right. English-language services begin each Sunday, 10 a.m. and Spanish-language services are 9 a.m. and noon. Everyone is welcome.

Little Chapel by the Lake

Says Pastor Ken Armstrong: “One of my favorite quotes of the faith comes from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who said, ‘Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.’”

Pastor Armstrong will talk about Christians being the light in his message on Sunday, July 23, entitled, “That Thing About Light,” drawn from Matthew 5:14-16.

Non-denominational Christian, English language Sunday worship service is at 11  a.m.  Everyone is invited to stay for a friendly comida (church meal) after the service.

Little Chapel is also open Wednesdays from 1 to 3 p.m. for silent prayer and worship in the sanctuary and memorial prayer garden. Everyone is welcome. Communion and anointing are available.

The free movie night and matinee is on Friday, July 28, 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, July 29, 1 p.m. The film “God’s Not Dead” will be screened. Free popcorn and drinks. Bring your own snacks!

For more information, see the display ad in this section.

Unitarian Universalists

The Sunday July, 23 presentation, by Lew Crippen, is entitled “Manifest Destiny and the Treaty of Guadalupe.” Trudy Crippen is the service leader.

The Treaty of Guadalupe resulted in Texas, much of Colorado, Utah, Nevada, etcetera being given to the United States by Mexico. This happened at the point of a sword, as General Winfield Scott was occupying Mexico City at the time at the end of the Mexican-American war (a war that was opposed by most Unitarians, as well as Abraham Lincoln).

The Unitarians meet at 10:30 in Riberas, opposite the bell tower, on the north side of the Carretera. If you have any questions, please call Trudy Crippen at 376 766 1119.

The Unitarians meet Sundays, 10:30 a.m. at Hidalgo 261 in Riberas del Pilar, opposite the bell tower, on the north side of the Carretera. For more information, call Fred Harland at (376) 766-1458.

San Andres English

“The Lord, Our Merciful JudgeWe stand in continual need of the mercy and forgiveness of God; and we are assured of God’s forgiveness when we repent, because God has sent us the spirit of God’s Son to help us and to plead for us in our weakness.”

So says Fr. Basil G. Royston, D. Min., who will offer the homily “Christ, The Sower,” at San Andres Catholic Church’s English-language service on Sunday, July 16, 9 a.m.

San Andres is located at the corner of Ramon Corona and Parroquia, one block from the Ajijic main plaza.

Home Church Int’l

Say Pastors Paul and Susana Allen: “Our God has done His part in attempting to put HIs creation in right relationship with Him.  That is not only during our existence on this earth.  We are spirit, we have a soul, and we live in a body.  Thus, we understand that our all-righteous God who is spirit can only receive us if we are in acceptable status with Him, born-again and forgiven.   Physical birth and good intentions are not enough.  Receiving the blessings of God are His doing. To fall short of this reaps the estrangement from and judgment of God.

“We can and should believe there is a heaven, the eternal blessing of God.  It is the reward of the born-again believer beyond the death of the body.   Likewise, there is a hell for the rebellious, the unbeliever beyond death.  They are those who did not surrender to the Lord Jesus Christ as both Lord and Savior.  Their destiny is everlasting torment and separation from God.  There is a judgment day beyond this life when God will sit in judgment on all nations, separating the righteous from the unrighteous forever.”
