Christ Church Episcopal
Christ Church Episcopal, a mission of the Diocese of the West in the Anglican Church of Mexico, will observe the tenth Sunday after Pentecost, Sunday, August 13, with Holy Communion at 9:30 a.m. in the Little Chapel by the Lake.
The Rev. Danny Borkowski will preside and give a message with the theme “Walking on Water” based on Matthew 14:22-33.
The commissioning of Mark Donaldson as Warden of Christ Church Episcopal will take place during the service.
The Lunch Bunch will meet at Alfredo’s California Restaurant in Riberas del Pilar at 11:15 a.m. The Bible Study group will not meet in the Little Chapel Fellowship Hall until further notice.
Little Chapel by the Lake
“A lot of people,” says Pastor Ken Armstrong, “justify their vanity by quoting that their body is ‘the temple of the Holy Spirit.’ But even if that was the context of that Scripture, some folks pay a lot more attention to the temple than to its Heavenly Inhabitant.”
This week, Little Chapel continues their August series about idolatry entitled, “Who’s Your Daddy?” On Sunday, August 13, the conversation is, “The Runaway Sacrifice,” drawn from Romans 12.
Non-denominational Christian, English-language Sunday worship service is at 11 a.m. Everyone is invited to stay for a friendly comida (church meal) after the service.
Little Chapel is also open Wednesdays from 1 to 3 p.m. for silent prayer and worship in the sanctuary and memorial prayer garden. Everyone is welcome. Communion and anointing are available.

Lake Chapala Baptist
Says Brother Bob Hendrick: “When I teach the sons of my son how to surf in the Texas soup, the first thing I explain is: No one rides the foam. I show them that they have to catch the slope of the swell before it breaks and stay on that slope so that gravity is pulling them down hill as the hill of water moves toward the shore. They do not need to understand geology or meteorology to ride the ‘wild’ Texas surf. They just need to recognize the source of propulsion and learn not to get ahead of it and not to fall behind. You do not have to be a theologian or a philosopher to serve God. You just need to recognize the source of power and don’t get ahead of Him and don’t fall behind.”

Lakeside Presbyterian
Health, family, worry, fear, conflict, employment — we face battles throughout our lives. God gives us the resources to meet most of the challenges. But sometimes we are confronted by a challenge so huge that we are unable to overcome. When King Jehoshaphat faced such an obstacle, the prophet informed him not to be dismayed for “this battle belongs to the Lord.” Likewise, God sometimes says to us, “Step aside. This battle is mine, not yours.”
Pastor Wayne Cook will deliver the sermon at the Sunday, August 13 service of the Lakeside Presbyterian Church. His sermon, “This Battle Belongs to the Lord,” is based on 2 Chronicles 20:15.

St. Andrew’s Anglican
Sunday, August 13, at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Fr. Winston Welty, former rector of St. Andrew’s, will fill in while Fr. Bryan Beveridge is on vacation. Fr. Winston’s sermon focuses on Peter, the one Jesus called “the rock” on which the Church would be built, who in fact sank like a rock when he tried walking on water. “Doubtful Salvation” suggests that Jesus’ question to Peter is also His question to us. “You of little faith, why do you doubt?”
Worship begins at 10 a.m., and the bilingual children’s Sunday School starts at 9:45 a.m. “Coffee Hour,” a time of fellowship and welcome, follows the service.
This Sunday we will collect donations for the support of our Sunday School children and their families.
And every Sunday, the feeding programs supported by St. Andrew’s welcome donations of non-perishable food items. Boxed milk and empty cardboard egg cartons are especially welcome, in addition to garbanzos, beans, pasta, oil, and salt.
Every donation or consignment you make to our resale shop, Todo Bueno, benefits the outreach ministry of the church, including a multitude of charities at Lakeside. Clothing, kitchenware, electronics, bric-a-brac, furniture, appliances, books, collectibles, etcetera — your trash is someone else’s treasure. Todo Bueno, open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. except Sunday, is located on the highway next to S&S Auto in Riberas del Pilar.
St. Andrew’s is located at Calle San Lucas 19, just a block south of the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar.
Jewish Congregation
Shabbat Torah services are held the first and third Saturday of the month, 10 a.m., and Shabbat evening services and potluck every second and fourth Friday, 6 p.m. at the Lake Chapala Jewish Congregation. Contact us for our summer schedule.

San Andres English
“In time of great anguish, such as St. Paul himself experienced, Christ is always with us, calming the storm and bringing peace.”
So says Fr. Basil G. Royston, D. Min., who will offer the homily “His Voice that Speaks of Peace” at San Andres Catholic Church’s English-language service on Sunday, August 13, 9 a.m.
After Mass, the San Andres English congregation will have a “Second Sunday White Envelope Offering” for the Outreach Projects of their congregation. This offering supports many local charities: six student scholarships, Villa Infantil, Operation Feed, Cruz Roja, Niños Incapacitados, El Corazon del Ancianos, the Ancianos Christmas Dinner, the San Andrés fiesta, Niños y Jovenes, and scholarships for local Seminarian students.

Unitarian Universalists
Inez Dayer will speak about the English as a Second Language (ESL) program at the Lake Chapala Society at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship meeting, Sunday, August 13, 10:30 a.m.
Dayer is the ESL director and her work can provide inspiration to those who consider the many options of how to assist others in the Lake Chapala area. People from different socioeconomic levels take the courses. There is hope of improving one’s socio-economic status by increasing employment options, particularly for those in poverty. The benefits of learning a second language can have significant positive effects on the brain.
Dayer will speak about what involvement with the program has meant to her and what she has gained personally from her work on behalf of young people and adults.

Abundant Life Church
Sunday, August 13, the congregation is blessed to have Mario Sanchez with them in service. Sanchez is a missionary to Libya and will be sharing his vision and experiences.
Abundant Life Church is affiliated with the Assemblies of God of Mexico and has services for everyone. An English-language worship service is held each Sunday, 10 a.m. and Bible Study Wednesday, 3 p.m. Spanish-language services are Sunday at noon. Spanish-language Bible studies are Wednesday, 6:45 p.m. A children’s ministry is held Saturday, noon, and youth meet Sunday, 6:30 p.m.

When needing a solution to a problem, we certainly don’t want a lie or a half-truth. This is especially true when we want and need to trust a person, particularly with our back to the wall. Pastors Paul and Susana Allen believe that it should never be violated. What if we could not trust in God when faced with a critical need? Of course, our mandate must be underscored with truth and honesty.
Our Creator, God, saw that He had to deal with man’s fallen state in such a way as to solve the problem and lovingly bring His creation out on top. Most everyone, particularly in the Western world, is familiar with the Ten Commandments. However, for man to be victorious and an eternal winner, God provided the way of redemption through His Son Jesus Christ who bore the penalty for our sins, and forgave our sins. What a real solution! Christ Jesus fulfilled the demands of the law for us! We gladly declare Christ’s death and resurrection as our only hope of salvation.
