Abundant Life Church

How can you know if you are saved or not? What is salvation? Some people in religious groups think that salvation is the conformation to a set of rules and knowing how to act in a religious way, but how did they come to that conclusion and is it correct? Sunday, August 20, Pastor Gary Neighbor explains what salvation looks like from Jesus´ perspective.

Abundant Life Church is affiliated with the Assemblies of God of Mexico and has services for everyone. An English-language worship service is held each Sunday, 10 a.m. and Bible Study Wednesday, 3 p.m. Spanish-language services are Sunday at noon. Spanish-language Bible studies are Wednesday, 6:45 p.m. A children’s ministry is held Saturday, noon, and youth meet Sunday, 6:30 p.m.

Abundant Life Church is located at Carretera Chapala-Jocotepec 140, San Antonio Tlayacapan, a block from SuperLake. For more information, call 331-417-7038 (cel).

Lakeside Presbyterian

Life as a believer is never without struggle. Elijah, one of the greatest prophets, had great faith and experienced victory, but he also faced times of doubt and despair. How does God meet us when we have lost our way?

Pastor Wayne Cook will deliver the sermon at the Sunday, August 20 service of the Lakeside Presbyterian Church. His message, ““How do we find God when there is no hope?” is based on 1 Kings 19:9-10.

Lakeside Presbyterian is located at San Jorge 250 in Riberas del Pilar. Turn toward the lake at Mom’s Restaurant and the church is two blocks down on the right. English-language services begin each Sunday, 10 a.m. and Spanish-language services are 9 a.m. and noon. Everyone is welcome.

St. Andrew’s Anglican

Sunday, August 20, at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Mother Liza Spangler will lead the worship in Fr. Bryan’s absence.

Mother Liza is the retired Dean of St. Paul’s Cathedral in Buffalo, New York. We will hear that Jesus’s initial, seemingly unkind response to the Canaanite woman who asks Jesus to help her daughter can be a cause of consternation to some. But ultimately the Gospel can suggest to us that “knowing” and “absolute certainty” are not always helpful to our relationship with God in Christ. Rather, the gift of unknowing can open us to a more profound connection with Christ and one another by allowing us to experience the wonder and joy of surprise.

Worship begins at 10 a.m., and the bilingual children’s Sunday School starts at 9:45 a.m.  “Coffee Hour,” a time of fellowship and welcome, follows the service.

The Social and Hospitality Committee invites both ladies and gentlemen to the monthly luncheon on Wednesday, August 23, 1 p.m. at Cocinart Restaurant in Ajijic.

And every Sunday, the feeding programs supported by St. Andrew’s welcome donations of non-perishable food items. Boxed milk and empty cardboard egg cartons are especially welcome, in addition to garbanzos, beans, pasta, oil, and salt.

Looking for something unique for your home or for a gift? Check out our resale shop, Todo Bueno, open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. except Sunday, located on the highway next to S&S Auto in Riberas del Pilar.

St. Andrew’s is located at Calle San Lucas 19, just a block south of the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar.

Lake Chapala Baptist

C.S. Lewis wrote, “If there are rats in a cellar you are most likely to see them if you go in very suddenly. But the suddenness does not create the rats: it only prevents them from hiding. In the same way the suddenness of the provocation does not make me an ill-tempered man: it only shows me what an ill-tempered man I am. The rats are always there in the cellar, but if you go in shouting and noisily they will have taken cover before you switch on the light.”

How do you react when trouble suddenly appears? Surprises and irritation don’t cause you to react outside your character. They reveal your character. Do you need to call on the exterminator?

Sunday, August 20, 11 a.m., Brother Hendrick will give the sermon at the worship service of the Lake Chapala Baptist Church, located at Santa Margarita 147, Riberas del Pilar.

Little Chapel by the Lake

“Success can be a great blessing. It can also be a deadly trap,” says Pastor Ken Armstrong. “It’s all very much in how we prioritize our lives, and where we view God in that picture.”

This week, the Little Chapel continues its August series about idolatry entitled, “Who’s Your Daddy?” Sunday, August 20, the conversation is titled, “Sad Stories of Success,” drawn from Philippians 2.

Non-denominational Christian, English-language Sunday worship service is at 11 a.m.  Everyone is invited to stay for a friendly comida (church meal) after the service.
