Abundant Life Church

Says Pastor Gary Neighbor: “Faith is affected by both the circumstance of life and your confidence in God. There are times when people of faith, who are confidante in their God, go through situations that seem to try them and their faith. What should we do when we are faced with a situation where life seems out of control and we are tempted to trust our own resources rather than God?  Come Sunday, October 1, to see what the Bible says about these moments in life and how you can come out victorious and with an even stronger faith.”

Abundant Life Church is affiliated with the Assemblies of God of Mexico and has services for everyone. An English-language worship service is held each Sunday, 10 a.m. and Bible Study Wednesday, 3 p.m. Spanish-language services are Sunday at noon. Spanish-language Bible studies are Wednesday, 6:45 p.m. A children’s ministry is held Saturday, noon, and youth meet Sunday, 6:30 p.m.

Abundant Life Church is located at Carretera Chapala-Jocotepec 140, San Antonio Tlayacapan, a block from Super Lake. For more information, call 331-417-7038 (cel).

Lake Chapala Baptist

Says Brother Bob Hendrick: “A windmill appears simple and romantic as it stands in a field or near an old farm house. But, after trying to keep one working, I have come to respect Don Quixote and his grudge against them. I know he saw them as dragons, but I don’t know if his perception was influenced by his having tried to keep one of them pumping water. It can cause apoplexy. In another vein, a windmill can be seen as a spiritual metaphor. Much of their workings are hidden from sight. There are unseen functions taking place up in the motor and down below the surface. They must have a source of water to draw on. They are useless without wind to drive them. And, they require maintenance to function efficiently. Jesus said, ‘I am the living water.’ He said the Spirit is like the wind; you can hear it, but you cannot see it, though you can see the effect of it. He also said, ‘Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.’ … that demands intentionality.”

Sunday, October 1, 11 a.m., Brother Hendrick will give the sermon at the worship service of the Lake Chapala Baptist Church, located at Santa Margarita 147, Riberas del Pilar.

Unitarian Universalists

“Bring forth what is in you” is the sermon to be presented by Rev. Matt Alspaugh at the service of the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Sunday, October 1. The title is from a saying in the Gospel of Thomas: “If you bring forth what is in you, [it] will save you; if you do not bring forth what is within you, [it] will destroy you.”

We explore what we bring forth, through our first Unitarian Universalist Source, that is, from our “direct experience of that transcending mystery and wonder ... which moves us to a renewal of the spirit and an openness to the forces which create and uphold life.”

The Unitarians meet 10:30 a.m. at Hidalgo 261 in Riberas del Pilar, opposite the bell tower, on the north side of the Carretera. Questions? Call Fred at 766-1458.

St. Andrew’s Anglican

Despite popular misunderstanding, the Kingdom of God is not a reward for good behavior. It is based on the unmerited love and grace of God we receive. Sunday, October 1, at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Fr. Bryan Beveridge will challenge us once more not to judge others but to attend to our own lives and our personal relationship to the living God.

Worship begins at 10 a.m., and the bilingual children’s Sunday School starts at 9:45 a.m.  “Coffee Hour,” a time of fellowship and welcome, follows the service.

The annual Blessing of the Animals, in honor of St. Francis, the patron saint of Chapala, will take place in the garden Saturday, September. 30, 11 a.m. All kinds of pets are welcome if they are properly restrained: dogs, cats, ponies, burros, frogs, snakes, hamsters, or any other beloved pet. You can even pick up some homemade treats for your fur babies. All proceeds and donations will go to Lakeside charities that benefit our friends in the animal kingdom.

Every Sunday, the feeding programs supported by St. Andrew’s welcome donations of non-perishable food items. Boxed milk and empty cardboard egg cartons are especially welcome, in addition to rice, beans, pasta, oil, and salt.

Whenever you want to recycle something, anything, don’t forget our St. Andrew’s resale shop, Todo Bueno. Every donation or consignment benefits the church’s outreach ministry, which supports a multitude of local charities. Clothing, kitchenware, electronics, bric-a-brac, furniture, appliances, books, collectibles, etc., are all welcome. Todo Bueno is located on the highway next to S&S Auto in Riberas del Pilar, and is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. every day except Sunday.

St. Andrew’s is located at Calle San Lucas 19, just a block south of the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar.

Home Church Int’l

Last week we started analyzing law as it pertains to our faith. The law is with us to serve as a warning. We find this useful, but not for affirmation and guidance. The law was the Jew’s effort to please this God. But what about transformation or reformation of a person? These aspects are important and necessary because man is a spirit, he has a soul, and lives in a body. He is eternal, and this is our inheritance. Regulations, limitations, and legalism bring no redemption to us.

Our Creator is the difference. We receive blessing and victory by His grace, that precious unearned favor. This should be our pursuit, not merely running from the effects of the law. The word “redemption” is most important to us. It is God’s eternal benefit and blessing to us, His creations, who are born-again unto Him. This word means deliverance, rescue from that which would ruin us. It also means a rescue from loss.  Pastors Paul and Susana Allen share that it means to buy back. It indicates that the ransom has been paid. To learn more, contact the pastors at 332-242-8648, or by email at This email address is being protected from spambots.
