Ajijic patroness returns home

Devotions honoring La Virgen del Rosario end Tuesday, October 31.

After a four-week stay in the San Andrés parish, the image of Ajijic’s original spiritual patroness will take a spin through village streets accompanied by troupes of ritual dancers, floats, marching bands, faithful followers and cohete rocket launchers.

The procession begins around 5 p.m. at the back of the church on Galeana, turning east on Guadalupe Victoria, south on Aldama and west on Constitucón-Ocampo before looping back on Hidalgo for an outdoor mass in the San Andrés atrium. Following the service, she will be toted home to the old stone chapel on the north side of the plaza, to be received with more fanfare. Festivities continue throughout the evening at the plaza, capped off between 10 and 11 p.m. with a towering castillo fireworks display.
