With love from Canada to Chapala

The Chapala fire department added another vehicle to its fleet this week thanks to a donation by Canada’s Firefighters Without Borders.

The arrangements were handled by local resident John Kelly, head man for the Lakeside Assistance Group and the Royal Canadian Legion.

The 1987 model Mack pumper truck arrived on October 29 at the end of a long journey from Vancouver, British Columbia. The exchange deal, set up more than a year ago, was held up until red tape, travel funding and all logistic details were sorted out.  Chapala Civil Protection and Fire Department chief Enrique Perales Miranda, along with staffers Sonia Hernández Fox and Bernardo Muñoz González, picked up the fire truck on October 1. It took them four weeks to get home due to the long distance, a minor mechanical failure and a fender bender along the way.
