Hernandez is a local physician who organized the five-kilometer Catrina run and walk in memory of his mother who lost her life to breast cancer earlier this year. Tagged as a “celebration of life,” he reports that the event drew 140 participants and more than two dozen corporate and individual sponsors.

Salvati assists victims of cancer and their families, providing guidance to arrange treatment through public health care system and helping obtain prostheses and other materials needed during recovery. The group also sponsors cancer awareness and early detection programs, such as the services of a mobile unit that will visit Chapala December 6 to offer mammograms and pap smear tests.
