St. Andrew’s Anglican

“We are an Easter people and Alleluia is our song!” These ancient words from St. Augustine still speak to the power of the Resurrection in our lives and in the world, says Rev. Glenn Chalmers. Join the congregation at St. Andrew’s as they celebrate Easter Sunday.

Every Sunday, the feeding program supported by St. Andrew’s welcomes donations of non-perishable food items. Boxed milk and empty cardboard egg cartons are especially welcome, in addition to rice, beans, pasta, oil and salt.

Decluttering?  Clearing out your closet?  If you are, please don’t forget St. Andrew’s resale shop, Todo Bueno.  Every donation or consignment you make benefits the church’s Outreach Ministry. Donations of clothing, kitchenware, electronics, bric-a-brac, furniture, appliances, books, collectables, sports equipment, etc., enables the parish to financially support a number of charities around Lakeside. Todo Bueno is located on the highway, next to S&S Auto in Riberas de Pilar, and is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Saturday.

St. Andrew’s service of Holy Eucharist begins Sunday, 10 a.m. and bilingual Sunday School starts at 9:45 a.m. Coffee hour, a time of fellowship and welcome, follows the service.

St. Andrew’s is located at Calle San Lucas 19, a block south of the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar.

Unitarian Universalists

Rev. Matt Alspaugh will speak on “Resurrection of the Earth” at the next meeting of the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Sunday, April 1, 10:30 a.m.

“This is Easter Sunday, sometimes known as Resurrection Sunday, and we’ll take a UU slant on this, exploring resurrection of our natural world. Realizing our human impact on the earth, how can we work to assure our planet remains viable for future generations? How can we resurrect the centrality of the earth in the human spirit?”

The Unitarians meets Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at Hidalgo 261, on the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar, opposite the Catholic Church.

Little Chapel by the Lake

“I love hero movies,” said Pastor Ken. “I grew up on a steady diet of Jimmy Stewart, Humphrey Bogart, and others,” he said. “I’m riveted by stories of real heroism like ‘Schindler’s List.’ But no story comes close to the miraculous true tale of the humble rabbi, a carpenter’s son from Nazareth, whose life, death, and resurrection changed, well, absolutely everything.”

The conversation at Little Chapel on April 1, Easter Sunday, is titled “Finished.” It is drawn from John 19 and other passages.

Non-denominational Christian, English language Sunday worship service is at 11 a.m. An informal hour of worship music, prayer, and open communion begins at 10 a.m. Everyone is invited to stay for a friendly comida (church meal) after the service.

Little Chapel is a dog-friendly congregation, to allow for those who need to keep their fur friends close. San Andres English

The Solemn Liturgy of the Passion of the Lord will be celebrated in English in the Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary on the Ajijic Plaza, Good Friday, March 30, 3 p.m. This will include the reading of the Passion from the Gospel of John, the Solemn Intercessions, the Veneration of the Holy Cross, Holy Communion, and the Departure in Silence to await the Glory of the Resurrection.

On Holy Saturday, March 31, the Church waits at the Lord’s tomb in prayer and fasting, meditating on the Passion and Death and on his Descent into Hell, and awaiting his Resurrection. The Church abstains from the Sacrifice of the Mass, with the sacred table left bare, until after the solemn Vigil, that is, the anticipation by night of the Resurrection, when the time comes for paschal joys, the abundance of which overflows to occupy fifty days.

The April 1, Easter Sunday Mass is our Alleluia: our song of praise to the Risen Christ who is our life and whose triumph over death we proclaim to all the world.

“God promised: ‘I will forgive their iniquity and never call their sin to mind.’ Today we consider the cost of the forgiveness: the tears of Christ; his avowal: ‘Now my soul is troubled.’” Fr. Basil G. Royston, D. Min., will offer the homily “Alleluia!” at San Andres Catholic Church’s English-language service Easter Sunday, April 1, 9 a.m.

San Andres is located at the corner of Ramon Corona and Parroquia, one block from the Ajijic main plaza.

Home Church Int’l

Animals can be such creatures of habit. Why do dogs spin around several times before lying down? Birds seem to start chirping at the very crack of dawn. Amazing, but humans have their own little habits which may seem just as strange. After a nap or night’s sleep, we like to stretch because it feels good. We may blurt out “excuse me” after sneezing without hardly thinking. Some habits may have a somewhat positive tilt, while others may not. We may say, “Can I watch my program now?”, when this habit should have been, “May I watch my program now?”

This season presents its own unique habits which are really in line for correction. In school we used to say “Easter break.” Secularists want that changed to mere ‘spring break’. Adding fat to the fire, Easter is not really the legitimate term. This word actually is derived from a pre-Christian fertility goddess Oestre who was celebrated at the beginning of spring. A connection to Jesus and the resurrection? Hardly! Pastors Paul and Susana Allen urge you to break the old habit and call our celebration what it really is, Resurrection Day. For more information, contact them at (332) 242-8648, or email at This email address is being protected from spambots.
