Rotarians roll up their sleeves

The Chapala Sunrise Rotary Club (CSRC), in partnership with community members from Mezcala, have completed the building of a structure that will serve as a rainwater collection and filtration point as well as a community “store” that will support the sale of produce to help sustain four feeding programs in the community.

The site adjoins a plot of land where fruit, vegetable and herbs are being planted to supplement the feeding programs.

On March 27, Chapala Sunrise Rotarians rolled up their sleeves with several Mezcalans to ready the site for opening.  Together, the group moved hundreds of pounds or rocks, leveled the area, removed debris from the lot and painted the new structure.

Locals from the community are now in training to help manage and work shifts in the garden/orchard and store areas.

The Foundation for Lake Chapala Charities provided most of the funding for the construction and the CSRC is grateful that the organization is helping local charities make dreams come true!
