April Fool’s fiesta a megahit!

The Tepehua April Fools Fun Raiser, held April 3 at the Sunrise Restaurant was a great success, says Top Fool  Harvey Bernier.

Some 165 people enjoyed the meal, including around 60 Tepehua volunteers, who were feted at the event.

The Wildlife Rescue Team brought along animals for selfie opportunities. (This group teaches locals not to kill wild animals and will come out any time – day or night – to rescue animals that might have made their way into your home.  Call Byrne for more details, 331-020-2585.)

Bernier said the Tepehua center netted about 75,000 pesos from the event, part of which will go toward the area’s new community center project in the small community of La Zapotera in the municipality of Poncitlan. The Tepehua Center is helping locals there start a sewing class, as well as supplying them with clothing to get a bazaar started to support their own community center. The Lake Chapala Presbyterian Church is working on providing the center with food for a soup kitchen.

The Tepehua Community Center, located in the hills above Chapala, works to bring medical services to an underserved sector of the local community.
