Jaltepec fundraiser mixes music & moussaka

Linda Buckthorp, community facilitator for the Centro Educativo Jaltepec, held a special event at her home for 30 guests who paid 1,000 pesos each for an all-inclusive afternoon.

Timothy G. Ruff Welch played cocktail music while the students prepared and served hors d’oeuvres, bottomless glasses of wine and a three-course Greek lunch, centered around moussaka, which Buckthorp personally prepared with help of the students.

Bill Dingwall then took guests on an amazing musical journey, presenting 17 songs recorded by Frank Sinatra and Antonio Carlos Jobim, including “The Girl From Ipanema,” “How Insensitive” and brilliant arrangements of standards such as “Change Partners” and “Baubles, Bangles & Beads.”

This event sold out almost immediately, so Buckthorp is considering the possibility of repeating it in late October if there is enough interest.
