A fundraiser for the Women of Mezcala Jewelry Making Project will be held at Huerto Cafe in Riberas del Pilar Monday, April 23, 5-7 p.m.
This event is billed as a wonderful evening of craft, art, cultural heritage, music and delicious cuisine. As guests arrive they will be serenaded by the provocative sounds of Kristina Trejo & Tonaluna. A special appetizer menu will be prepared and a cash bar will be available. Artwork in the garden will be by Julie Mignard.
All ticket and sale proceeds from this benefit garden party will assist and support this new jewelry collective of five women from Mezcala and La Cuesta. The focus of this project is to create a cottage industry jewelry-making project that will give the women and their families a means of economic independence. The jewelry is being sold at Cugini’s and Diane Pearl in Ajijic.
The towns of Mezcala and La Cuesta lie on a narrow stretch of land, hugging the north shore of Lake Chapala, east of Mezcala in the municipality of Poncitlan, about one hour east of Chapala. The area has recently been in the news due to the high number of renal failure cases seen there.
Huerto Café is located at Hidalgo 212 (Carretara Chapala-Jocotepec) in Riberas del Pilar. Reservations are recommended at (376) 108-0843 or This email address is being protected from spambots.
