Thousands of pilgrims will congregate in Chapala Sunday, July 8 to accompany the Virgen de Zapopan on her traditional summer visit to lakeside.
Local organizers of the religious celebration announced that the revered icon will arrive at the north end of Avenida Madero at 11 a.m. for a spectacular procession running the full length of the main thoroughfare, ending at the steps of the San Francisco parish for an outdoor mass at noon. Cherished as La Reina del Lago, the petite image of the Virgin of Expectation will remain in town for an overnight stay as the faithful raise prayers for divine intervention to protect and replenish Lake Chapala during the rainy season.
