Abundant Life

It is a great goal to draw nearer to God. How can you and who is able? There are all kinds of ideas in the religious world today, but there is only one way that is “God Approved.” Some who are trying will actually be rejected, but if we go before Him the way He wants us to come we will always be accepted.

Come this Sunday, July 1, to discover the approved method and learn how to implement it. This Sunday cast your vote for a personal relationship with God!

Abundant Life Church is affiliated with the Assemblies of God of Mexico and has services for everyone. An English-language worship service is held each Sunday, 10 a.m. and Bible Study Wednesday, 3 p.m. Spanish-language services are Sunday at noon. Spanish-language Bible studies are Wednesday, 6:45 p.m. A children’s ministry is held Saturday, noon, and youth meet Sunday, 6:30 p.m.

The church is located at Carretera Chapala-Jocotepec 140, San Antonio Tlayacapan, a block from Super Lake. For more information, call 331-417-7038 (cel).

St. Andrew’s Anglican

“In Sunday’s Gospel lesson from Mark, Jesus is first ridiculed and then held in amazement. In dramatic scenes of healing, Jesus teaches us about the power of fear and the power of faith,” says the Rev. Glenn Chalmers, rector of St. Andrew’s.

St. Andrew’s service of Holy Eucharist begins Sunday, 10 a.m. and bilingual Sunday School starts at 9:45 a.m. Coffee hour, a time of fellowship and welcome, follows the service.

Every Sunday, Operation Feed, the feeding program supported by St. Andrew’s, welcomes donations of non-perishable food items. Boxed milk and empty cardboard egg cartons are especially welcome, in addition to rice, beans, pasta, lentils, garbanzos, oats, oil and salt. The parish distributes these foodstuffs to the Lakeside’s neediest families.

St. Andrew’s is located at Calle San Lucas 19, a block south of the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar.

St. Andrew’s is looking for a part-time office manager.  If you’re interested, call 333-201-2294, or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..">This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Unitarian Universalists

At the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship on Sunday, July 1, explore music programs that have made a difference in the lives of at-risk children and learn about Musica Para Crecer (Music to Grow), the San Juan Cosala’s program that has touched so many kids in recent years. Program President Maria Socorro Woncheé Montaño will give the presentation and children from the San Juan Cosala chorus will perform.  Karyn Carpenter is service leader.

The Unitarians meet Sundays, 10:30 a.m., at Hidalgo 261, on the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar, opposite the Catholic Church.

Little Chapel by the Lake

She was a woman that no respectable church going Christian would ever want to be seen with. Even the trying-hard-to-be-holy disciples saw she was a train wreck. They were religion-shocked that Jesus had been whiling away the afternoon with her. But to cite an old Dottie Rambo lyric, “He looked beyond her faults and saw her needs.” And all of us train wrecks since are eternally grateful He did. Come to the Little Chapel Sunday, July 1, 11 a.m. and hear from Pastor Jim Andrew about a woman who never found anyone or anything that could satisfy her soul until she encountered Christ (John 4: 5-29).

After the service, guests are invited to join the congregation for a comida.

Monday, July 2, meet at the Little Chapel at 3:30 p.m. to go and sing “Fun With Music” at O’Hana’s assisted living care center, La Paz 6 in San Juan Cosala, at 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 4, Fun With Music will head to Mi Casita assisted care center in San Antonio Tlayacapan, located next to Lety’s Restaurant, same time.

The Little Chapel by the Lake is located at Chapala-Ajijic Highway 10 in Chula Vista, directly opposite Mirasol.  Contact (376) 766-2538 for more information.

Lake Chapala Baptist

I underline my Bible a lot. Some believe it’s not good to write in your Bible – it’s sacrilegious. Whether or not that’s true, it does point out something. Look at what is underlined. The Bible is filled with deep, life-changing truths.

Are our underlines only on the most known verses? Is it for your few favorites or the pithy sayings in the Bible? Is it only for the sweet, happy, feel-good promises?

Or is it underlined where Christ stands exalted in glory and truth? Is it on holiness and righteousness? Is it on Christian judgment? You know, the parts which tell us – get right, grow up, and obey or you will bear the consequences of trifling with God even though a Christian.

Underlining reveals much about your Christian life by observing the passages not underlined and the neglect of those other deep, life-changing truths.

Lake Chapala Baptist Church is located at Santa Margarita 147, Riberas del Pilar. Sunday worship begins at 11 a.m.

Lakeside Presbyterian

In his July 1 sermon, “Telling the Truth,” Pastor Ross Arnold will consider the idea of truth, what God says about telling the truth, and how we can live in a culture that no longer seems to value truth.

Jesus told His followers, “You will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” But in these days of “fake news” and “alternative facts,” what is truth? Does truth have meaning in modern times?

Outreach News: LPC’s outreach blueprint is laid out in Matthew 25:35-40.

35: “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,” 36: “I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.”

37: “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38: “When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? “39: “When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?”

40: “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’”

Many at Lakeside – no fault of their own – fall into the category of “the least of these.”

Lakeside Presbyterian Church is at San Jorge 250 in Riberas del Pilar.

English-language services begin each Sunday at 10 a.m., Spanish-language services at 9 a.m. Sunday School for Adults begins at 8:30 a.m. in the Library, and Fridays, Bible Study begins at 9:45 a.m., also in the Library.

San Andres English

“The Lord made us to live.  Death is totally opposed to God, who is life itself.  And yet, Christ accepted death in order that we might live.  He took our poverty to make us rich.”

Fr. Basil G. Royston, D. Min. will offer the homily “The Lord who gives Life” at San Andres Catholic Church’s English-language service Sunday, July 1, 9 a.m.

The San Andres English congregation holds a “First Sunday of the Month Food Drive” to help support the children at Villa Infantil orphanage in Jocotepec and the sisters who care for them. Consider bringing a non-perishable food item, toilet tissue, cleaning products, and the like to Sunday’s Liturgy.

San Andres is located at the corner of Ramon Corona and Parroquia, one block from the Ajijic main plaza.

Home Church Int’l

Many years ago there was an Elmer Fudd cartoon in the theaters. Something caused a myriad of hats to blow in a strong wind. Elmer found himself right in their pathway. Many different types of hats landed on his bald head. Each hat bore an identifying type. One was an Army officer’s hat, and Elmer immediately took on the personality of the hat. Quickly he imagined himself as Gen. Douglas MacArthur. When it blew off, along came a sailor’s hat which transformed him into Popeye. This experience happened often.

This can be not unlike regular people who appear to the public as changeable from time to time. The motive can vary. Witnesses to this type of person wonder about them. Sadly, this happens to some worshippers. They can appear as prim and proper in a worship service on Sunday. Yet, if they were surveilled during the week, their attitudes and actions might be quite less admiral than on Sunday. It is something called a CINO, Christian In Name Only. In short, a poor witness. Pastors Paul and Susana Allen remind all about living the genuine, holy life.  To learn more, contact them at (332) 242-8648, or by email at This email address is being protected from spambots.
