George Bernard Shaw once said, “I have never had any feeling for the working-classes except a desire to abolish them and replace them with sensible people.”
But Jesus wanted people like that. He didn’t recruit from the great rabbinical schools, or from the aristocracy. His handpicked apprentices (apostles) were largely ordinary commercial fishermen. Uneducated. Uncouth. Uncultured. Certainly not churchy types. But that was always “the Plan.” God used ordinary people to do extraordinary things. Still does.
Pastor Jim Andrew shares how God loves, chooses and uses people just like you and me to impact our world Sunday, 11 a.m. at the Little Chapel.

Sunday, July 22, Dr. Wayne Cook continues his series on the supremacy of love.
Tina Turner wrote a catchy song, “What’s Love Got to Do With It?” In the spiritual realm, the answer is “everything.” In 1 Corinthians 13, Paul claims that of all God’s gifts, love is the greatest, superior to all. Without love, all others are worthless.
God loves us even when we are unworthy. God’s love, in turn, allows us to love the unlovable, to forgive the unforgivable, and to worship the unimaginable.
Outreach News: LPC continues to clothe and feed the needy, and respond to urgent situations. LPC’s Parish Nurse, Lynn Turnbull R.N., has designed a comprehensive Faith Community Nursing Plan. Monthly blood pressure checks are offered on the first Sundays of the month, and blood glucose checks on the third Sundays. Both are free of charge, following worship. Eye exams are free monthly, and glasses are available at a discounted price. Many other services are offered, and new ones are in the works.

Lake Chapala Baptist
God is an artist. The creation that surrounds us is evidence of that. The Bible also is evidence of God’s artistry. It contains pictures, illustrations that reveal the things of life and eternity. Anyone who will take time to seriously read the Bible will begin to understand who God is, who they are and the ramifications of that understanding. If you’re a history buff you know that you learn valuable lessons as you study the past. There are so many lessons to learn from the history of Israel and their ups and downs, victories and defeats. That nation made some good decisions, and when they did, God blessed them. At other times they made bad decisions and had to live with the consequences. But all along the way it was evident that God was working in their lives. On Sunday mornings the next several weeks, we’ll look at some of those lessons and try to understand how they apply to us.

Every Sunday, Operation Feed, the program supported by St. Andrew’s, welcomes donations of non-perishable food items. Boxed milk and empty cardboard egg cartons are especially welcome, in addition to rice, beans, pasta, lentils, garbanzos, oats, oil and salt. The parish distributes these foodstuffs to Lakeside’s neediest families.
Every donation or consignment you make to the Todo Bueno resale shop benefits the Outreach Ministry, enabling the parish to support a number of charities around Lakeside. Todo Bueno is on the highway, just west of S&S Auto in Riberas de Pilar, open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

Jewish Congregation
Shabbat Torah services are held the first and third Saturday of the month, 10 a.m., and Shabbat evening services and potluck every second and fourth Friday, 6 p.m., at the Lake Chapala Jewish Congregation.

Abundant Life
Is your Christian walk constantly changing or are you consistent? Many people think that, as believers, we are constantly changing and the situations cause us to have to be highly flexible. God is the same yesterday, today and forever. As believers we should be planted, not constantly moving from one great thing to another. Sunday, July 22, Pastor Gary will analyze the way God leads his people, even when there is change in the future.
Abundant Life Church is affiliated with Assemblies of God of Mexico and has services for everyone. An English worship service is held Sundays, 10 a.m. and Bible Study Wednesdays, 3 p.m. Spanish-language services are Sunday at noon. Spanish Bible studies are Wednesday, 6:45 p.m. A children’s ministry is held Saturday, noon, and youth meet Sunday, 6:30 p.m.

Christ Church Lakeside
Christ Church Lakeside, a mission of the Diocese of the West in the Anglican Church of Mexico, will observe the ninth Sunday after Pentecost, Sunday, July 22, with the Holy Eucharist at 10 a.m. in the La Huerta Eventos Center. Fr. Danny Borkowski will preside and give the message “Sheep and Shepherds” based on Mark 6:30-34, 53-56.
The Lunch Bunch will meet noon at Min Wah Restaurant, Tepalo 96A, following refreshments and coffee after the service.

At the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship on Sunday, July 22, Jim Bellamy and Karyn Carpenter read the words of former UUA president, Peter Morales, and current president, Susan Frederick-Gray, reflecting on their commitment to justice, which included imprisonment. This service continues our study of how Unitarian Universalists show leadership in facing the ethical challenges facing the world in general, and the United States specifically. Helen White is the service leader.

“We’re following the leader, the leader, the leader ...” Remember that little song and game? When the “leader” is picked, he or she would start off, usually skipping. Everyone would follow in a single line. It was fun for all, even in difficult maneuvers. If a leader does not use good judgment and becomes risky, the “follower” might well choose not to follow.
It’s amazing how this type of pattern seems to emerge among adults. We recall horrific instances when a leader emerges, appearing to be a hero, but later displays ruthlessness. Among these were Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Kim Jung Un, and the list goes on. In the spiritual realm heavenly wisdom is greatly needed. Jim Jones was a negative case in point. Others exist now. It even happens among ministers today. We must weigh their leadership according to God’s Word. What about us? Should someone follow us who claim to be followers of Christ? If we take lifestyle liberties, what if the unsaved say, “Aw, they’re no different than us!” Pastors Paul and Susana Allen call upon us to examine our own lives and witness. Is Jesus apparent? The Chapala Meditation Circle of Self Realization Fellowship holds meditation services Thursdays, 7-9 p.m. Paramahansa Yogananda, author of the spiritual classic, “Autobiography of a Yogi,” founded Self Realization Fellowship in 1920 to make available the universal teachings of Kriya Yoga, a sacred spiritual science originating millennia ago in India.
