After Mass, the San Andrés English-language congregation will have a “Second Sunday White Envelope Offering” for the Outreach Projects of their congregation. This offering supports many local charities: six student scholarships, Villa Infantil, Operation Feed, Cruz Roja, Niños Incapacitados, El Corazon del Ancianos, the Ancianos Christmas Dinner, the San Andrés fiesta, Niños y Jovenes, and scholarships for local Seminary students.
Wednesday, August 15, the church celebrates The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven. In Mary’s glorious Assumption we celebrate the fulfillment of our Christian destiny and with her we proclaim the goodness of the Lord.

Unitarian Universalists
At the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Sunday, August 5, Paul Bennett will give the sermon, “We Are One,” taken from Peter Morales’ sermon reflecting on his family home, Mexico, and how we overlook our own status as immigrants. Trudy Crippen is the service leader.

Christ Church Lakeside
Christ Church Lakeside, a mission of the Diocese of the West in the Anglican Church of Mexico, will observe the twelfth Sunday after Pentecost, Sunday, August 12, with the Holy Eucharist at 10 a.m. in the La Huerta Eventos Center. Fr. Jim Powers presides and Fr. Danny gives a message, “Eating and Believing,” based on John 6: 35, 41-51.
The Lunch Bunch enjoys a potluck in the church with the theme Caribbean cooking following the refreshments and coffee after the service.
The Bible Study meets Tuesday, August 14, 2 p.m. in the home of Elizabeth Carroll, at Galeana 35 in Ajijic. All are welcome to learn about and discuss the inspired contents of the Bible.
Little Chapel by the Lake
“Growing up I never wanted to ask my Dad for anything. It was excruciating. I’d break out in a sweat just thinking about it,” says Pastor Jim Andrew. “And Mom was no help. If I asked her for whatever it was, she would smile and very kindly say ‘Go ask your Father’. Arghh. I learned pretty quickly not to bother him unless I was desperate. Sound familiar? I have to admit I’m still like that with God. But Jesus did just the opposite. Over and over He encourages people to enthusiastically, unapologetically ask God for things and never quit. What did He know that we don’t? When did you stop asking God for things?”
Says Pastor Jim: “Come this Sunday at 11 a.m. and explore with us the tremendous access we rightfully have to ask our Heavenly Father for every good and perfect gift.”

Wednesday, August 15, 5:30 p.m., Little Chapel will show a video, “Incredible Creatures that defy Evolution 3,” which enters the fascinating world of animals to reveal sophisticated and complex designs that shake the traditional foundations of evolutionary theory. Dr. Jobe Martin has been fascinating his students as he lectures on these remarkable animals that cannot be explained by traditional evolution.
Dr. Martin was a traditional evolutionist, but his medical and scientific training would go through an evolution ... rather a revolution, when he began to study animals that challenged the scientific assumptions of his education.

We are fortunate and blessed to live in this part of the world with so much natural beauty. Is there a relationship between the creation and Jesus?
The Bible says there are three different relationships between Jesus Christ and the creation. He is the maker, the sustainer and the heir of creation.
“All things were created by Him,” so He is the originator. The creation came into being by His power.
“All things were created through Him,” so He is the mediating agent through which it actually came into being.
“All things have been created for Him,” so He is the end for which all of all of creation exists.
Those relationships are in the past, the present and the future. From the standpoint of creation, it owes its existence to Him in the past, it owes its unity to Him in the present and He will be Lord over it all throughout eternity which is future. The vast expanse of the universe has been, is and will be under His dominion forever.

St. Andrew’s Anglican
Pastor Rodger Ericson will preside and preach on Sunday, August 12.
He says, “The cross is the common theme and treasure of Christianity. Consider with us the joys and obligations that the cross gives to all who share the Christian faith.”
St. Andrew’s service of Holy Eucharist begins Sunday, 10 a.m., and bilingual Sunday School starts at 9:45 a.m. Coffee hour, a time of fellowship and welcome, follows the service.
It’s back-to-school time for St. Andrew’s Sunday School children. Each year, the congregation helps the kids with school supplies. For the next three weeks, contributions in cash or items like pencils, erasers, scissors, glue sticks, crayons, small calculators, tape, backpacks, notebooks, pens in red, blue or black, etc, are all welcome.
Every Sunday, Operation Feed, the program supported by St. Andrew’s, welcomes donations of non-perishable food items. Boxed milk and empty cardboard egg cartons are especially welcome, in addition to rice, beans, pasta, lentils, garbanzos, oats, oil and salt. The parish distributes the donations to Lakeside’s neediest families.
Every donation or consignment you make to the Todo Bueno resale shop benefits the Outreach Ministry, enabling the parish to support a number of charities around Lakeside. Todo Bueno is on the highway just west of S&S Auto in Riberas de Pilar, open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

Sunday, August 12, Dr. Wayne Cook continues his sermon series about Love. He draws from 1 Corinthians 13 (often referred to as the Love Chapter, authored by Paul). The highest form of Love in the Bible is agape. Agape describes God’s incomparable Love for us and ours for him. More than just a feeling, it transforms us and provokes action. God demonstrated His Love for humanity when Christ died for us. If we have such Love, it is proof that God is in us (1 John 4:16).
Outreach News: Lakeside Presbyterian hums with volunteer activity. Breakfasts for 83 children consist of burritos filled with beans, eggs, ham and cheese made by the mothers. The Clean Water Project is due for completion this month. July’s Bible School taught 52 children about God’s love, and respect for all, regardless of age or economic status. Free Blood Glucose checks are every third Sunday; free Blood Pressure checks every first Sunday, following services. This is Second Sunday luncheon, with delicious pozole being served. All are welcome.

Science has found that it takes understandable effort to do so many things. We can logically guess that it takes certain muscles to lift a fairly heavy object. It takes hand, arm, shoulder, stomach, back, leg, and maybe many more. Just to paint a picture, cook a meal, write an essay, tend the lawn or garden all take effort. It begins with thought, decision, preparation and concentration. Is it attempted merely for self, or what we can do to bless another?
Why is it necessary to think in these terms? Can’t a person do something merely for his own pleasure? Certainly Jesus used lots of examples in ordinary life to explain things. Nature often took center stage. Yet, that’s why He directed us to “seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.” To obey this direction also demands decision and effort. Life’s beauty and meaning come from committed effort and decision to feast upon our Creator God, Jehovah.
