Amazing cooks serve up Asian delights

Cooks at the standing-room-only Culinary Arts Society of Ajijic (CASA) July 23 meeting were challenged with creating delicious Asian main courses and desserts.

pg14The results were outstanding:

Lydia Cortes took first place and People’s Choice awards with her crisp and crunchy wraps. Robbin Del Nagro Moore’s Thai chicken curry with apple chutney and spring rolls came in second and won the best presentation prize. Laure Hilden’s Peking duck was third, while Carol Van Gorp tied for best presentation with her Kyoto salmon.

In the dessert category, Michele Lococo won first prize and best presentation with her green tea sponge with ginger mango mousse and sesame tuiles. Allison Quattrocchi took second place with Thai sticky rice with mangos and pistachios and Roberta Kalan came in third with Yak Kwa, Korean ginger cookies dipped in honey, tying with Steve Parke’s Thai spiced mango coconut surprise. Parker also won the People’s Choice award.

CASA’s next meeting is Monday, August 20, at the Montecarlo Hotel in Chapala, when the category for both main course and dessert will be picnic basket.
