Lake Chapala Baptist

In Matthew chapter 6, Jesus instructed His followers to pray, “Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” After His death and resurrection, He returned to heaven and the church was formed. Jesus is the head of the church and, just as our bodies are physically subject to the dictates of our heads, so the Church is to obey the commands it receives from its head. Every action we take begins in our minds – we think the action before we ever do it.

Whether it’s a good deed or a bad deed, we have considered it mentally before the signal is sent from our brain to the members of our body in order to carry out our will. Jesus Christ being the head of His body, should guide the members of His body in carrying out His will, which He has communicated to those members. That’s why it’s vital for anyone who calls themselves a Christian to know and obey the revealed will of God.

Lake Chapala Baptist Church is at Santa Margarita 147, Riberas del Pilar. Sunday worship is at 11 a.m.

Every Sunday, Operation Feed, the program supported by St. Andrew’s, welcomes donations of non-perishable food items. Boxed milk and empty cardboard egg cartons are especially welcome, in addition to rice, beans, pasta, lentils, garbanzos, oats, oil and salt. The parish distributes the donations to Lakeside’s neediest families.

Every donation or consignment you make to the Todo Bueno resale shop benefits the Outreach Ministry, enabling the parish to support a number of charities around Lakeside. Todo Bueno is on the highway just west of S&S Auto in Riberas de Pilar, open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

Little Chapel by the Lake

Remember that old game show “To Tell the Truth”? At the end of all the questioning of the three panelists, host Gary Moore would say, “Will the real Edgar Schlupmeier please stand up!”

In a way Jesus anticipated this with the statement .“By this will everyone know that you are my disciples, (that is) if you love each other.”

In other words, Christ is saying, “The authenticating earmark of every true follower of mine is this one thing: that they love other people like I do.”

Since He said that, there have been countless adherents and claimers of the name Christian. Not everyone who has claimed to be one has been one. Even today, the name Christian is a fairly generic term that sometimes means little more than, “Well, I’m not a pagan!”

Jesus seems to anticipate all of this. He said that in the future many would come in his name; call themselves after that name (Christ-ian). He implies that there will be no shortage of fakes and phonies using that name as just another means to hoodwink and take advantage of trusting souls.

Sunday, August 19, 11 a.m., Little Chapel by the Lake Pastor Jim Andrew shares what it means to be a follower of Jesus … and if you happen to see the real Edgar Schlupmeier, tell him he’s invited.

Join the Little Chapel for a friendly family “comida” directly following the morning service.

Monday, August 20, join “Fun with Music” at Nursing Home Lake Chapala, Paseo del Lago 282, Riberas de Pilar.  Wednesday, August 22, they visit La Valentina assisted living care center, Chapala-Jocotepec Highway 905. For either singalong, carpool from the Little Chapel at 3:30 p.m. and sing between 4 and 5 p.m.

Wednesday, August 22, 5:30 p.m., Little Chapel will show the first in a two-video series, “Creation Proclaims.”

The Little Chapel by the Lake is at Chapala-Ajijic Highway 10 in Chula Vista opposite Mirasol. Information: (376) 766-2538.

San Andrés

“Eucharist means thanksgiving. Today, filled with the Spirit, we make thanksgiving to God for the bread of life.”

Fr. Basil G. Royston, D. Min., will offer the homily “Our Eucharistic Thanksgiving” at San Andres Catholic Church’s English service, Sunday, August 19, 9 a.m.

San Andrés is located at the corner of Ramon Corona and Parroquia, one block from the Ajijic main plaza.

Unitarian Universalists

At the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Sunday, August 19, Richard Clarke will talk about Elderhood traditions around the world. Carol, the service leader, will show “The Magnificent Chariot of Peace,” the Elderhood Rite given to Richard for his 70th birthday in South India. Finally, there will be discussion, asking “What should we do here at Lake Chapala?”

The Unitarians meet Sundays, 10:30 a.m., at Hidalgo 261, on the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar, opposite the Catholic Church.

Abundant Life

How big is your God? Some answer this question wondering why it matters. Your answer matters because the size of your God determines the size of the enemy that you can believe he can conquer. Some have a God that can heal a cold but can that God also heal cancer? Sunday, August 19, Pastor Gary explains how to know the real God. God is bigger than any problem, sickness and issue you may face and He wants to reveal His glory in the midst of all you face.

Abundant Life Church is affiliated with Assemblies of God of Mexico and has services for everyone. A worship service in English is held Sundays, 10 a.m., and Bible Study Wednesdays, 3 p.m. Spanish-language services are Sunday at noon. Spanish Bible studies are Wednesday, 6:45 p.m. A children’s ministry is held Saturday, noon, and youth meet Sunday, 6:30 p.m.

The church is at Carretera Chapala-Jocotepec 140, San Antonio Tlayacapan, a block from Super Lake. Information: 331-417-7038.

Home Church Int’l

It’s amazing that in the past couple of years the anti-Christian bias has mushroomed. This includes actions and decisions which are blatantly against our faith. Take for instance the well-known department store which, for several months, has allowed men who “feel feminine at the moment” to enter a female bathroom. Many sexual crimes have occurred as a result. Biased injustices have blossomed. Does it seem like the church is becoming more like the world rather than the opposite?

For the Christian, shoulder shrugging doesn’t cut it. When do we emphatically declare God’s way and none other? We have taken many opportunities to express our support for pastor Brunson in Turkey and Christian Asia Bibi in Pakistan who are under great judgment falsely. Area religions show their legalistic injustice.  Christianity is not a religion, but a Person and His way of life. The New Testament in Ephesians declares that “we are not wrestling against flesh and blood, but against … spiritual wickedness in high places.” It is a spiritual war legalistically causing great evil.

Pastors Paul and Susana Allen exhort us to take a stand and call forth righteousness. Information: (332) 242-8648, This email address is being protected from spambots. The Lord’s Church

“We could only know about God what He wants to show us,” says Pastor Ken. “In fact, if we could use our own minds to describe God or explain Him, then He wouldn’t be God. But has our perception of God been affected by things we read about Him in fiction or how we see Him portrayed in movies? Maybe, let’s ‘drill down’ and see.”

In this Sunday’s message, “Tinseltown God(s),” Pastor Ken will examine John 4 and related passages.

The Lord’s Church meets at Carretera Chapala-Jocotepec 131 in San Antonio Tlayacapan. (Look for the “No. 131” sign, across from the Corona castle.)

Sundays, 10 a.m., enjoy praise music by Redeemed, followed at 11 a.m. by TLC’s “Extraordinary Service,” including worship, praise, communion and this week’s conversation.

The Lord’s Church is a non-denominational Christian congregation, following a biblical model of church leadership.
