Shabbat Torah services are held the first and third Saturday of the month, 10 a.m., and Shabbat evening services and potluck every second and fourth Friday, 6 p.m., at the Lake Chapala Jewish Congregation.

Lake Chapala Baptist
In Matthew chapter 6, Jesus instructed His followers to pray, “Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” After His death and resurrection, He returned to heaven and the church was formed. Jesus is the head of the church and, just as our bodies are physically subject to the dictates of our heads, so the Church is to obey the commands it receives from its head. Every action we take begins in our minds – we think the action before we ever do it.
Whether it’s a good deed or a bad deed, we have considered it mentally before the signal is sent from our brain to the members of our body in order to carry out our will. Jesus Christ being the head of His body, should guide the members of His body in carrying out His will, which He has communicated to those members. That’s why it’s vital for anyone who calls themselves a Christian to know and obey the revealed will of God.

St. Andrew’s Anglican
Pastor Rodger Ericson will preside and preach on Sunday, August 19.
St. Andrew’s service of Holy Eucharist begins Sunday, 10 a.m., and bilingual Sunday School starts at 9:45 a.m. Coffee hour, a time of fellowship and welcome, follows the service.
Every Sunday, Operation Feed, the program supported by St. Andrew’s, welcomes donations of non-perishable food items. Boxed milk and empty cardboard egg cartons are especially welcome, in addition to rice, beans, pasta, lentils, garbanzos, oats, oil and salt. The parish distributes the donations to Lakeside’s neediest families.
Every donation or consignment you make to the Todo Bueno resale shop benefits the Outreach Ministry, enabling the parish to support a number of charities around Lakeside. Todo Bueno is on the highway just west of S&S Auto in Riberas de Pilar, open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

Lakeside Presbyterian
Many of us, at some point in our lives, may have had questions, even doubts, about our belief in God. Sunday, August 19, Lakeshore resident Doug De Rubeis shares his personal journey with us. At an earlier time of his life, De Rubeis was a confirmed atheist. But though he gave up on God, God did not abandon him. Sunday, De Rubeis will tell the story of his convoluted journey from unbelief to belief. Please join us to hear his fascinating narrative.

Christ Church Lakeside
Christ Church Lakeside, a mission of the Diocese of the West in the Anglican Church of Mexico, will observe the 13th Sunday after Pentecost, Sunday, August 19, with the Holy Eucharist at 10 a.m. in the La Huerta Eventos Center. Fr. Danny Borkowski will preside and Fr. Jim Powers will give a message, “Flesh and Blood,” based on John 6: 51-58.

Little Chapel by the Lake
Remember that old game show “To Tell the Truth”? At the end of all the questioning of the three panelists, host Gary Moore would say, “Will the real Edgar Schlupmeier please stand up!”
In a way Jesus anticipated this with the statement .“By this will everyone know that you are my disciples, (that is) if you love each other.”
In other words, Christ is saying, “The authenticating earmark of every true follower of mine is this one thing: that they love other people like I do.”
Since He said that, there have been countless adherents and claimers of the name Christian. Not everyone who has claimed to be one has been one. Even today, the name Christian is a fairly generic term that sometimes means little more than, “Well, I’m not a pagan!”
Jesus seems to anticipate all of this. He said that in the future many would come in his name; call themselves after that name (Christ-ian). He implies that there will be no shortage of fakes and phonies using that name as just another means to hoodwink and take advantage of trusting souls.

San Andrés

At the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Sunday, August 19, Richard Clarke will talk about Elderhood traditions around the world. Carol, the service leader, will show “The Magnificent Chariot of Peace,” the Elderhood Rite given to Richard for his 70th birthday in South India. Finally, there will be discussion, asking “What should we do here at Lake Chapala?”
The Unitarians meet Sundays, 10:30 a.m., at Hidalgo 261, on the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar, opposite the Catholic Church.

Home Church Int’l
It’s amazing that in the past couple of years the anti-Christian bias has mushroomed. This includes actions and decisions which are blatantly against our faith. Take for instance the well-known department store which, for several months, has allowed men who “feel feminine at the moment” to enter a female bathroom. Many sexual crimes have occurred as a result. Biased injustices have blossomed. Does it seem like the church is becoming more like the world rather than the opposite?
For the Christian, shoulder shrugging doesn’t cut it. When do we emphatically declare God’s way and none other? We have taken many opportunities to express our support for pastor Brunson in Turkey and Christian Asia Bibi in Pakistan who are under great judgment falsely. Area religions show their legalistic injustice. Christianity is not a religion, but a Person and His way of life. The New Testament in Ephesians declares that “we are not wrestling against flesh and blood, but against … spiritual wickedness in high places.” It is a spiritual war legalistically causing great evil.

The Lord’s Church
“We could only know about God what He wants to show us,” says Pastor Ken. “In fact, if we could use our own minds to describe God or explain Him, then He wouldn’t be God. But has our perception of God been affected by things we read about Him in fiction or how we see Him portrayed in movies? Maybe, let’s ‘drill down’ and see.”
