Christ Church Lakeside
Christ Church Lakeside, a mission of the Diocese of the West in the Anglican Church of Mexico, will observe the 22nd Sunday after Pentecost, October 21, with the Holy Eucharist at 11 a.m. in La Huerta Eventos Center. Rev. Jim Powers will preside and Rt. Rev. Sandy Olson will give a message, “The Servant of God,” based on Mark 10:25-35.
The Lunch Bunch will hold a potluck in La Huerta Eventos Center following refreshments and coffee after the service.
The Bible Study, which Christ Church sponsors, is suspended until November 6.
Unitarian Universalists
Justice will be the topic Sunday, October 21, at the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.
Susan Miller will consider the second principle of Unitarian Universalism, “affirming justice, equity and compassion in human relations.” Just what is justice? What is the goal of justice? What is a just person, and what do we owe, in terms of justice, to the people in our lives? Dave Miller is service leader.
The Unitarians meet Sundays, 10:30 a.m., at Hidalgo 261, on the Carretera in Riberas del Pilar, opposite the Catholic Church.
Jewish Congregation
Shabbat Torah services are held the first and third Saturday of the month, 10 a.m., and Shabbat evening services and potluck every second and fourth Friday, 6 p.m., at the Lake Chapala Jewish Congregation.

Lake Chapala Baptist
When you read the gospel accounts, obedience is what separated people in terms of believing in Jesus. Jesus went into Galilee and began healing people and feeding the multitudes and they loved it. Jesus is wonderful, they said. “Let’s get Him a crown and make Him king.” He was the most popular guy around but then He said, “Now I want to talk to you about sin.” And a lot of them left. He started talking about the fact that the price of following Him was total obedience. And one by one, the majority left. You see, they could take all that He gave them and the good things He did for them, but they didn’t want to pay the price of true discipleship. Most of them couldn’t take that. But some received His words and obeyed them; They “kept” them. And Jesus said, “Father, they have kept the things that I said, which are Your words.” That’s the human side of salvation — obedience to the things Jesus said.

St. Andrew’s Anglican
Sunday, October 21, the Rev. Liza Spangler will preside and preach.
St. Andrew’s service of Holy Eucharist begins Sunday, 10 a.m., and bilingual Sunday School starts at 9:45 a.m. Coffee hour, a time of fellowship and welcome, follows the service.
Following services on October 21 and 28, and concluding on November 4, Rev. Spangler will hold short presentations on the history and importance of the Anglican “Book of Common Prayer.”
Every Sunday, Operation Feed, the program supported by St. Andrew’s, welcomes donations of non-perishable food items. Boxed milk and empty cardboard egg cartons are especially welcome, in addition to rice, beans, pasta, lentils, garbanzos, oats, oil and salt. The parish distributes the donations to Lakeside’s neediest families.

Fr. Basil G. Royston, D. Min., will offer the homily “Christ the Suffering Servant of God” at San Andrés Catholic Church’s service in English, Sunday, October 21, 9 a.m.

Little Chapel by the Lake
Anybody need a good lawyer? Charles Dickens said, “If there were no bad people, there would be no good lawyers.“ It’s likely he wasn’t thinking in a theological sense, but interestingly enough, he echoes something the Apostle John said about Jesus. And us. “If anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ, the righteous.” Literally, advocate means “one called alongside to help” and was often used in a legal sense referring to a defense attorney. Think of that. Jesus as your personal defense attorney in the heavenly courts. And, He’s got an in with the Judge!

Friday, October 26, there will be two movie showings, 4:30 or 6:30 p.m. at the Little Chapel. “Queen of Katwe” is a Disney film based on the true story about a Ugandan girl who rises from utmost poverty to become a chess champion.
Abundant Life Church
The Lord rewards faithfulness. There are some who begin well or even have had a close relationship with the Lord in the past but the Lord is always looking for faithfulness until the end. Faithfulness is part of God´s character. 2 Timothy 2:13b says, “He (God) remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself.” Come Sunday, October 21, to discover keys to place this part of God´s nature in you. You can be a faithful person in all areas of your life.
Abundant Life Church’s worship service in English is held Sundays, 10 a.m., and Bible Study Wednesdays, 3 p.m. Spanish-language services are Sunday at noon. Lakeside Presbyterian
Sunday, October 21, Pastor Ross Arnold’s sermon is entitled “Nothing Else Matters.” Many people have many different ideas about what it means to be a Christian, and what the Christian faith should look like in a person’s life, based on the letters of the Apostle Paul.

Although they do not attend our church, 33 children from Riberas del Pilar and San Antonio were invited to LPC to receive sweatshirts, caps and other items donated by congregation members. Deacons Gary and Marcee Smith distribute a dozen packages of staple food items weekly, enriched by surplus fresh fruit donated by congregants. In spite of the poverty in which these good people live, Gary and Marcee unfailingly encounter smiles and optimism.

Common to all people is the emergence of doubt. Sometimes it is involved in legal decisions or merely an opinion in ordinary conversation. Often we have all said, “I doubt it.” Usually the person issuing the doubt is at least vaguely informed about the inquiry, or only trying to sound important. These responses usually don’t impact the situation much.
In the spiritual realm, it goes much deeper – the soul. Jesus frequently drove this home, as in Matthew 21. “And Jesus answered them, ‘Truly I say to you, if you have faith [a firm relying trust] and do not doubt, … but even if you say to this mountain, be taken up and cast in to the sea, it will be done. And whatever you ask in prayer, having faith and really believing, you will receive.’” This says to not be at variance with yourself. It is saying to not waver between hope and fear, the expression of doubt, which pleases the devil. Pastors Paul and Susana Allen urge you to be a believer, trusting God, dispelling doubt. The Chapala Meditation Circle of Self Realization Fellowship holds meditation services Thursdays, 7-9 p.m. Paramahansa Yogananda, author of the spiritual classic “Autobiography of a Yogi,” founded Self Realization Fellowship in 1920 to make available the universal teachings of Kriya Yoga, a sacred spiritual science originating millennia ago in India.
