Although the Naked Stage closed in September, fans of readers’ theater at lakeside can continue to enjoy the genre thanks to launch of the Bare Stage Theatre, which will present shows on the last weekend of each month.
For its first reading, Friday, October 26, Bare Stage Theatre has chosen “Art of Murder” by Joe Di Pietro, a comedy-mystery with a thin overlay of chat about the more ruthless aspects of the art industry – perfect for Halloween and Day of the Dead.
The story centers on artist Jack Brooks, who mistreats his wife, Annie, and everyone around him, using the fact that he is an amazing artist as an excuse to act out. His agent Vincent Cummings shows up and between the gunfire and drowning, things begin to go awry.
The show features Kathleen Morris, Jon de Young, Tina Leon and John Ward and is directed by Arleen Pace.
Find out more at facebook/arestagetheatre2018. The shows will be presented in the same location used by Naked Stage — on the Carretera (Hidalgo 261) in Riberas del Pilar, across from the Catholic Church.
“Art of Murder” is on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, October 26-28, 4 p.m. Box office and bar open at 3 p.m. (Bar purchases go to help local animal charities.) Tickets are 100 pesos.
