Thirty-Four, eight-member teams competed in the 10th Anniversary Trivia Quizzes event organized through Niños Incapacitados and held at the Hotel Real de Chapala February 5.
All proceeds from the event will be used to help 156 Lakeside children with their expenses for medical and therapeutic care.
The afternoon session winner was the “Alternative Facts” team (with 73 out of the 80 multiple choice questions answered correctly), followed by “Triviera Alta” in second place and “Las Reinas del Norte” in third. “Ajijic Super Heroes” prevailed over 21 teams in the evening session, scoring 69 correct answers. In the runner-up position was “The Eyes Have It,” with “La Cristina Gang” in third.
The trivia questions covered an array of topics, including art, history, science, sports, and pop culture.
Teams were also recognized in a variety of categories for their creativity, originality and wit in their choices of team names, attire and table decorations. In the afternoon session, “Eager Beavers” won the Most Patriotic Table award on the basis of wearing all things imprinted with the Canadian maple leaf. Team members were attired in Canadian red and white and maple leaves (at least a hundred of them) from head to toe – hats, scarves, tee-shirts, pants, arm decor, flag antlers, etcetera.
“Flashes of Genius” was recognized for the Most Inspired Table with their gold-glitter lightning flashes, intermingled with glued on photos of historical geniuses, including Einstein and Marie Curie.
The Most Musical Table award went to “The Ukulele Hearts” in recognition of their composition and performance of the song “For the Children.”
With a United Nations of flags as their centerpiece, INternational Brigade won the “The Most All-Inclusive and Most ‘IN’ Table.”
Plans for next year’s event are already in the works. Information about the work of Niños Incapacitados can be found at programaninos.com, along with details about the upcoming Noche Mexicana Gala Fiesta on Thursday, March 14 (also see page 20 of this edition).
