Ajijic church suspends English-language Masses

English-speaking parishioners at Ajijic’s San Andrés church were taken by surprise Sunday, March 3 when they arrived for the regular 9 a.m. Mass and found the gates locked.

The English-language service has been celebrated every Sunday for more than four decades.

Parish office secretary Virginia Borrayo explained that it was suspended last week on instructions from ecclesiastical authorities in Guadalajara due to an issue regarding the pending renewal of the ministerial license held by Father Basil G. Royston. She indicated that the English service will resume as of March 10, with Padre Everardo Sánchez assigned to officiate for the foreign congregation.
