Christ Church Lakeside
Christ Church Lakeside (CCL), a parish of the Diocese of the West in the Anglican Church of Mexico, will observe the Fifth Sunday after Pentecost, July 14, by celebrating the Holy Eucharist Rite Two at 11 a.m. in La Huerta Events Center. Lakeside Presbyterian
This Sunday, Carolyn Hansen’s sermon “A Worthy Life” ponders: “We’ve all been to enough memorial services to recognize that some lives have been better lived than others. We all want to live a good and worthy life, and through the words of the apostle Paul, God tells us how we can do it.”

Weekly despensas for needy Lakeside families now include cartons of milk, donated by the LPC congregation. Shelf-stable milk can be dropped by LPC any Sunday at receptacles in the foyer. Fruit and veggies also welcomed.

Operation Feed welcomes donations of non-perishable food items every Sunday. Boxed milk and empty cardboard egg cartons are especially welcome, in addition to rice, beans, pasta, lentils, garbanzos, oats, oil and salt. The parish distributes the donations to Lakeside’s neediest families.
Decluttering? If so, don’t forget Todo Bueno. Donations or consignments benefit St. Andrew’s Outreach Ministry. Everything from clothing, kitchenware, electronics, books, furniture, appliances, collectibles to sports equipment are welcomed.

Unitarian Universalists
Sunday, July 14, Karyn Carpenter speaks on “God Went to Beauty School” while Trudy Crippen gives the sermon at the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalists Fellowship. This sermon is inspired by UU ministers Michelle Buhite and George Beach and features the poetry of Newbery Prize-winning author and poet Cynthia Rylant.
The service explores various questions: What do people mean by God? How does reading help many connect with their inner gods? Why would God choose for Carpenter to become a manicurist when she could have chosen to be a hair cutter, colorist, or masseur?

Lake Chapala Baptist
Kings 19:9 states, “He entered a cave there and spent the night. Suddenly, the word of the Lord came to him, and he said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
Elijah has just defeated the 400 prophets of Baal. He summoned fire from Heaven, and it consumed his sacrifice. For most people, this would be a victory parade. However, Elijah’s victory infuriated Jezebel, and she wanted him dead. In fear, Elijah ran for the hills and ended up in a cave. When he got there, God asked him, “What are you doing here? I just helped you defeat the prophets of Baal and one woman threatens your life, and you run in fear?”
It is easy to get spooked from time to time. What’s interesting is that it often happens right after God has done a work in our lives. Instead of trusting the Lord to protect us, we run in fear. This causes a chain reaction of bad decisions. The next thing you know, you are in a place you didn’t expect to be. The danger here is that we can lose hope and end up staying in that place for a long time. We do that by complaining about how bad our life is.
There is a way out. Elijah listened to the Lord and went on doing the work the Lord gave him to do. He stopped throwing a pity party and got back to what he was supposed to be doing. Our attitude dictates a lot of where we find ourselves. God didn’t give Elijah a pep talk. He just told him to go and do what He asked him. Motion overcomes emotion. Get going and watch as your attitude changes. If you wait for your attitude to change before you go, you may never get going.

Abundant Life Church
Do you want to be blessed by God? I think everyone would respond with an enthusiastic “yes.” The problem is that only a few understand what it means to be blessed by him. Even fewer are willing to do what it takes. Everyone who calls on the name of Jesus is blessed with an invitation to know Him. His blessings focus on the relationship that the believer has with him rather than material things. God blesses so that we can be a blessing to others but the hardest part is doing what it takes to get blessed. Come Sunday, July 14, as we discover what God wants from us. We just may find out that it is also what we want from Him.

Riberas Meditation
Spiritual liberation – self-realization and enlightenment – come from knowledge, not from any action or activity, not from mental know-how, but rather from deep internal knowledge. Self-realization is not transformation, but a revelation of who you are and always have been.
Ramana Maharshi was the leading Indian spiritual teacher of the 20th century. He taught the practice of self-inquiry as the most direct way to self-knowledge. This is looking within yourself to see what is true – and what is not true – about your own sense of identity, your ego.
Weekly spiritual gatherings (satsangs) are a time to come together and listen to contemporary teachers’ instruction on Ramana’s teachings and then meditate as a group. They are hosted Wednesdays, 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the house of Richard and Carol, San Luis 73, Riberas del Pilar. There is no cost for satsang, and books and meditation materials will be provided. Home Church Int’l
It’s amazing to see how many people occasionally attend church, or maybe even often, who are a little misguided. They could be mulling over what is important to them in this venture, depending on if the service measures up to their expectations. What about their chosen proximity to the pulpit? They may or may not want to be in any limelight. Let us question what this is about.
A place in the pews hardly measures up to what our one true God intended as worship. Jesus had an experience with this. One afternoon, He rested Himself besides Jacob’s well in Samaria. A Samaritan woman soon arrived to draw water. Jesus asked for a drink but the woman was shocked because Jews would not normally do this. Jesus talked to her about His living water yet she tried to change the subject, something about where to worship. In short, He explained that the most important thing was that “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” Pastors Paul and Susana Allen urge all to focus our motive on exalting the Lord.
