Lakeside Presbyterian

Dr. Wayne Cook continues his sermon series on Spiritual Gifts (Romans 12:6-8).  Every believer has charisma (a gift). Paul gives three separate lists of spiritual gifts designed for the church. No one has every gift, but everyone has at least one: not for personal glorification, but to glorify God and build His church. The ideal is that believers discover their gifts and use them to benefit all.

Communion is offered following the service.

Lake Chapala Baptist

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another.  By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:34-35)

Jesus commanded that we love one another. This was not a suggestion or recommendation; it was a command. He didn’t put restrictions on that love. He didn’t say that the other person had to be like us or even believe as we believe. He simply commanded that we love one another as he loves us. His love is all encompassing. It is complete and without reservations. We show our love by the way we treat others. Was he a bully or intolerant? NO! He told us about a Samaritan who went out of his way to help a Jew who was in trouble. They had different beliefs and their people were enemies but he stopped and helped. Should we do less? If we are Christians, we must have and show our love for everyone as God shows his love for us.

Brother Eddie Garnett will be presenting the message on Sunday, September 8.

Lake Chapala Baptist Church is at Santa Margarita 147, Riberas del Pilar. English-language Sunday school, 9:45 a.m.; English-language worship service, 11 a.m., and Spanish-language worship service, 12:30 p.m.

Home Church Int’l

For one to be a role model, primarily to youngsters and teens, he or she must give themselves a very honest evaluation. That young person often will idolize their mentor. This says to the mentor that what he or she displays before this youngster had better be consistently on the up-and-up.

In the spiritual realm this might be expanded to include the impact of one’s display upon anyone. Even adults form assessments of young and older alike. A person’s attitude and actions reveal what their inner values and being are at present. They reflect what seems to be their focus in life. Just as the moon only reflects what the sun performs, so humans reflect what they usually allow to influence them. Jesus said in Matthew 5 to “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Pastors Paul and Susana Allen challenge us all to examine our presence and witness before others to see if they glorify God.
