CASA sends 6 culinary students to Vallarta gastronomic confab

The Culinary Arts Society of Ajijic (CASA) is sponsoring six students from the local culinary school to attend the Vallarta/Nayarit Gastronomic 2019 conference, scheduled September 29 to October 3. 

pg11bThis event features 11 Michelin Star restaurants, six chefs from the top 50 Best Chefs in Mexico and 40 other chefs, culinary expert speakers, sommeliers, mixologists and premium labels.

Club members came up with the 18,000 pesos needed for the six students to attend the conference at its monthly meeting September 23 at the Hotel Monte Carlo.

Winners in the Mexican main dish category at the meeting were Janet Jorch with first place and the people’s choice awards for gallinas borachas; Dennis Brann in second place for rojo y verde lomo de cerdo a la parilla con frijoles charros; and Vanessa Cunningham in third place for chicken enchilada soup. Toni Ryan earned the presentation award for green corn tamales.

In the Mexican desserts category, Sally Myers took first place, presentation and the people’s choice awards for a Margarita cheesecake; Geanie Tilley won second place for Mexican brownies; Roberta Kalan won third place for pastel de elote.
