Lake Chapala DAR chapter installs new officers

Members of the Thomas Paine Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) resumed their regular monthly meetings in Ajijic on September 18, after their annual summer break.

The first order of business was installing new chapter officers who were elected in June.

Outgoing Chapter Regent, Lorene Fields, administered the oath of office for the installation.

The new officers are: Chapter Regent Cindy Stone, Vice-Regent Ilona De Borhegyi, Secretary Peggy DuFon, Treasurer June Matthews and Registrar Sandra Loridans. Susana Allen, the new chaplain, will be installed at a later meeting.

DAR members congratulated Sandra Loridans for being recently installed as the State Regent of the Mexico State Society NSDAR.  (The State Society consists of four chapters in Mexico: Mexico City, Los Alamos, San Carlos and Lake Chapala.)

The Thomas Paine DAR Chapter, founded in Ajijic in 1999, is part of the National Society DAR (NSDAR) a nonpolitical volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, historic preservation, and education.

Daughters in the Ajijic Chapter have focused their efforts on education by paying tuition for many students at the Instituto Tecnológico and providing financial assistance for local students at universities in Guadalajara. The Chapter also has funded scholarships for many Niños de Chapala y Ajijic (NCA) students in primary, secondary and preparatory grades.

The Thomas Paine Chapter welcomes prospective members and offers applicants assistance in documenting their lineage. Membership is open to any woman who is lineally descended from a man or woman who supported the cause of American Independence.
