There are no fees for attending High Holy Day services.
Shabbat Torah services are held the first and third Saturday of the month, 10 a.m., and Shabbat evening services and potluck every second and fourth Friday, 6 p.m.

Christ Church
Christ Church Lakeside, a parish of the Diocese of the West in the Anglican Church of Mexico, will observe the 16th Sunday after Pentecost, September 29, by celebrating the Holy Eucharist Rite Two at 11 a.m. in La Huerta Events Center. Father Danny will celebrate and give a message with the theme, “The Power to Purchase,” based on Luke 16: 19-31.
Coffee is available before the service and coffee and refreshments are served after the service.
Sunday School (in Spanish) convenes during the service at the Gospel Reading. Young people are welcome to share in this time of lessons and discovery.

Sunday, September 29, at the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, Roy Haynes will lead a program – “‘UU and You’ … Reflections of Diverse Paths to being a UU” – featuring various members of the Fellowship on how they have chosen to be Unitarian Universalists after coming from other faiths. They will help explain how such a seemingly diverse group of people are able to share their search for truth with each other in the same fellowship.

LPC volunteers distributed 100 bags of clothing to psychiatric patients in Guadalajara, many abandoned by their families. They are also establishing sources of clean water in communities where dozens of youths have died from heavy metals contamination. Children who cannot read or write continue to join LPC’s Literacy Program. What better gift for a child than becoming literate?

“Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of eternal life to which you were called and about which you have made a good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” (1 Timothy 6:12).
The gift of salvation is free, but after that, there needs to be some effort on our part. Faith is a living breathing thing. We have to put our trust in God and keep trusting Him through everything. God doesn’t want us to give in because we are discouraged. He wants us to press on and take hold of the eternal life He has waiting for us. First, we need to commit to serving the Lord. To be a servant means we put ourselves under the master and work to do His will. As a Christian, we need to take the servant posture. We need to stop looking for God to serve us and start doing what He needs us to do. Second, we need to trust His sovereignty. His direction for us is better than our plans. When we learn to trust God, our faith grows. Keep serving even when it isn’t fun anymore. Walk through the doors God opens for you and stop trying to open the ones He has closed. Most of all, don’t give up when you are discouraged. There is so much waiting for you on the other side.

How big is God? That may seem like a silly question but the way you perceive God affects how you respond and obey Him. Home Church Int’l
In a general sense, people who are faithful in attending church are often referred to as “people of faith.” As complimentary as this sounds, it may or may not be true. Authentic Christian faith is when that faith bears fruit. If not, one might hear “Put up or shut up” or “Put your money where your mouth is” or “Talk is cheap.” These are caustic challenges to demonstrating the genuineness of our faith.
Most of us have heard, “By grace have you been saved through faith, not of works lest anyone should boast.” Grace is God’s unearned favor. Works (efforts) without faith is mere self-effort. However, we also find that, “So also faith, if it does not have works (deeds and actions of obedience to back it up), by itself is destitute of power (inoperative, dead).” (James 2:17 AMPC). “Works” here simply means commitment and involvement, faithfulness in the mission of God’s church, gathered or alone. Pastors Paul and Susana Allen challenge us all to be people of faith by heeding His call upon us.

Chavurah Chapala holds High Holiday Service
On Wednesday, October 2, Chavurah Chapala will reprise last year’s “Hits of the High Holidays” service with a service during which participants will journey together to the heart of the High Holidays, and prepare to write the next chapter of their lives in the new year 5780.
The sights, sounds, emotions and meaning of all ten days will be explored in one and a half hours. There will be prayer, music, Shofar-blowing, an emotional Yizkor service, poetry and commentary. We will end with the traditional Challah, apples and honey.
