Little Chapel by the Lake
Pastor Lahry Sibley’s Experiencing God sermon on Sunday October 13 will focus on the practical application of how we can hear from God, and know that we are hearing from God, and not ourselves, or others from our past.

St. Andrew’s Anglican
Sunday, October 13, the Reverend Jim Priddy will preside and preach at St. Andrew’s service of Holy Eucharist, 10 a.m. Coffee hour, a time of fellowship and welcome, follows the service.
The St. Andrew’s Book Club will meet Monday, October 14, 10:30 a.m. in the multipurpose room. The book under discussion is “Under the Wide and Starry Sky” by Nancy Horan.
Operation Feed welcomes donations of non-perishable food items every Sunday. Boxed milk and empty cardboard egg cartons are especially welcome, in addition to rice, beans, pasta, lentils, garbanzos, oats, oil and salt. The parish distributes the donations to Lakeside’s neediest families.
Decluttering? If so, don’t forget Todo Bueno. Donations or consignments benefit St. Andrew’s Outreach Ministry. Everything from clothing, kitchenware, electronics, books, furniture, appliances, collectibles to sports equipment are welcomed.
Todo Bueno is on the Carretera, just west of S&S Auto in Riberas del Pilar. Open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

What do you have in your hand when you hold a Bible? Some say a great book. Others refer to the Bible as the “Word of God.” Whatever you call the Bible is up to you but what you do with it is a command of the Lord. The Bible is relevant to us today and we need to pattern our lives based on its principles. In contradiction to what some think, good and bad is not relative and the Bible gives us clear guidance even in very difficult times.
Come this Sunday, October 13, as Pastor Gary reminds us of what the Bible says about itself and our need to study it, practice what it says and teach it to others.

When things do not go the way we hope they will or are accomplished later than we hope, we have a tendency to become discouraged. We forget to trust in God. His will is perfect and his desires will be accomplished in his perfect time. He tells us to trust in Him and He never fails us. We like to measure things: how big, how tall, how smart, how attractive, how strong? We put worth on these measurements. Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador is powerful, so he’s important. Kate de Castillo is a famous Mexican actress, so she’s somebody. Carlos Slim is the richest man in Mexico, so we admire him.
God has a different measuring stick. Unimpressed with our power, our looks, our money, He judges our hearts and actions. Paul describes how to please God, with the greatest gift – love.

Christ Church
Christ Church Lakeside, a parish of the Diocese of the West in the Anglican Church of Mexico, will observe the 18th Sunday after Pentecost, October 13, by celebrating the Holy Eucharist Rite Two at 11 a.m. in La Huerta Events Center. The Rev. Jim Powers will give a message with the theme “Thank God!”, based on Luke 17:11-19.
Coffee is available before the service and coffee and refreshments are served after the service.
Sunday School (in Spanish) convenes during the service at the Gospel Reading. Young people are welcome to share in this time of lessons and discovery.

Sunday, October 13, at the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, Kathy Koches, Bob Koches and Rev. Matt Alspaugh will present ‘’Why Have Rituals?’’
Rituals, both spiritual and secular, play a part in all our lives. Kathy will speak about what rituals are and why we have them, Bob about rituals bringing comfort and Rev. Matt will explore what it means to create and use ritual in our Sunday services.

One thing which is common to virtually all is seeking comfort. A psychopath may be focused on problem and disruption. But most of humanity turn their attention to convenience and comfort. We don’t like putting up with inconvenience or discomfort. Pathways to comfort might come from music and other entertainment, physical adjustments, enjoyable acquaintances, etc. One only needs to use their intellect and wisdom to decide which is beneficial, productive, and healthy.
Motive and personal orientation usually are the great motivators. If one goes to a lecture or concert, usually they will surmise that they will be comfortable in it. Does this sound like church worshipers today? And, normally we would not find them participating if it was expecting to be discomforting. But, the true motive should never simply to be comfortable. What about the righteous motive to worship the Heavenly Father with other believers? Sometimes we will hear instruction which might be challenging and not make us comfortable. This week’s Satsang will be on Ramana’s “Forty Verses on Reality,” Verse 34: Illusion is orn of ignorance. Ramana Maharshi was an Indian spiritual teacher of the 20th century. He taught self-realization and self-inquiry as the most direct way: looking within yourself to see what is always, and never comes and goes.
