First call for extended San Sebastián romp

Residents of upper Ajijic are gearing up for the annual tribute to neighborhood patron saint San Sebastián Martir, to be extended over three days of devotions and festivities this year, instead of the usual January 20 celebration.

pg9While details of the full January 18 to 20 program have yet to be finalized, two fundraising activities are scheduled for this weekend to help defray fiesta expenses, which include decorations, music and free communal feasting.

On Saturday, January 11, neighbors of the barrio will host an afternoon kermess (fair) offering an array of typical Mexican dishes such as pozole, tamales, tacos, sopes and enchiladas, along with hamburgers and hot dogs, from 1 p.m. until sold out.

Set for Sunday, January 12, from 9 a.m., is a rummage sale, where shoppers will find bargains on secondhand clothing, household goods and miscellanea.

The location is Calle Emiliano Zapata at the corner of Marcos Castellanos.
