St. Andrew’s Church salutes Iris and Bert Slocombe

The congregation of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church dedicated its January 26 service to Iris and Bert Slocombe, in recognition of their valuable contributions to the parish over the past 35 years.

After 47 years of marriage and a fascinating history of globe-trotting in service to others, the British couple settled at lakeside in 1995. The following year, Iris was called to be vicar of the budding St. Andrews Mission, an affiliate of the Western Diocese of the Iglesia Anglicana de México.

In 1999, after the mortgage on the church property was paid off, St. Andrew’s became a full-fledged parish, with Iris named as it first rector. She retired from the post in 2005.
