Lakeside Presbyterian

LPC’s sermon series on “The Purpose-Driven Life” continues. Your purpose as a living being on Earth is not found within you or around you; it is found by looking upward to the One who created you. This week’s sermon deals with pleasing God with your worship, not only something we do on Sunday morning for an hour, but also as a daily, continuous process of being mindful of God.

A post-service forum will be held in the library for deeper discussion. You can buy an electronic version of “The Purpose-Driven Life” at Amazon.com. The book is free at Kindle Unlimited.

LPC’s Praise Team, now a dozen voices strong, leads our congregation in uplifting harmonies every Sunday. Lend your voices to the joy!

After the Sunday, February 9 service, join in our second Sunday celebration. A main course is provided; please bring a side dish or salad to share.

LPC volunteers assemble despensas for hungry families every Tuesday morning at 10 a.m.; deliveries are made at 11 a.m. Make a tremendous difference in the lives of  our wonderful and loving Mexican neighbors. Unitarian Universalists

Guest minister Rev. Joan Van Becelaere will speak on “Change Our Words, Change the World” Sunday, February 9, at the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.

There is power in our words and our stories. Our words can tear down and destroy, or they can impart grace and hope to support all who hear them. We have a choice of which kinds of words to use and which kinds of stories to tell as we speak with to our spouses, children, colleagues, and strangers. Destructive language can damage lives. Grace-filled language can transform lives for the good. How can we use the power of words wisely?

The Rev. Van Becelaere spent over 11 years as the district executive of the Ohio-Meadville District and then staff lead for the Central East Region. In 2018, she retired from the UUA and is the part-time executive director of Unitarian Universalist Justice Ohio and volunteers with the Ohio Poor People’s Campaign. She was vice-president for Student Services at Iliff School of Theology in Denver, Colorado, where she also taught UU polity and history.

Lake Chapala Baptist

“So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.” (Hebrews 4:16.)

We can be overwhelmed by many issues all at the same time. What’s hard is that these seasons seem unavoidable, and we’re left with little choice but to plow through them. In seasons of overwhelm, our sinful nature becomes evident. We get impatient and snappy. We try to cut corners and slack on our responsibilities. We often walk out of step with the Holy Spirit. We are not loving, kind, gentle, self-controlled, peaceful, joyful, patient or faithful. In times when we are broken down and tired, we need to experience God’s grace, be strengthened and motivated by His grace. Because we are forgiven in Jesus, there is grace for us! We can go to God with full confidence that He will not condemn us for all the ways we feel like we failed. There is grace upon grace waiting for us to receive it.

Lake Chapala Baptist Church is at Santa Margarita 147, Riberas del Pilar. English-language Sunday school, 9:45 a.m.; English-language worship service, 11 a.m., and Spanish-language worship service, 12:30 p.m.

Home Church Int’l

Pastors Paul and Susana Allen like to initiate their spoken messages by involving the audience to repeating, “It’s not about me; it’s all about Him.” This is our Creator’s design for us. Why? Because we are eternal creatures, our spirits winging past the grave. It’s like when Jesus addressed His Father, “But Father, not my will be done, but Thine.” God will lead if you will follow.
