We are starting a new sermon series based on Matthew 5:7. The principles are so radical that they would likely make sense only for those who belong to Christ. So as a preparation for the series. I want to begin with a message about heaven’s citizens. Indeed, we are aliens in this world, traveling on a temporary passport. We must never become too comfortable here because we are only passing through.

St. Andrew’s Anglican
Sunday, January 17, St. Andrew’s congregation will worship in-person at church at 10 a.m. with the allowed 25-percent capacity – 40 people. There also will be seats available outside for more worshipers. The service will also be live-streamed. The Rev. Robbin Moore will preach and celebrate Holy Communion.

At the praise and worship service at the Little Chapel by the Lake, Sunday, January 17, 11 a.m., Pastor Pete Campbell will be preaching from Genesis chapter 50. God wants to give us a Biblical perspective of hope for 2021.

Christ Church
Christ Church Lakeside, a parish of the Diocese of the West in the Anglican Church of Mexico, will observe the second Sunday after the Epiphany, January 17, by celebrating a Holy Eucharist service, 11 a.m. in the La Huerta Eventos center. Rev. Danny Borkowski will celebrate and give the message “A True Israelite” based on John 1:43-51. Covid-19 ordinances and diocesan mandates will be observed. Masks are required.
There will be a “bring your own picnic” in the church hall following the Annual General Meeting after the service.
The Loaves and Fishes Food Distribution will not be held January 12.

How far would you travel to give a special gift to someone you dearly loved? 50 miles, 150, 1,000, or around the world? Think about this; the greatest of all persons (Jesus Christ) traveled the greatest distance (from heaven to earth) to provide the greatest gift (His death on the cross for the sin of the world.) Why? John 3:16 “Because God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” What can we give Him in return? Actually, God has no needs. He created the world and everything in it. What He desires more than anything is that we love Him with our whole heart, mind, body, soul, and strength, to serve Him and enjoy Him forever. Have you perhaps ever felt you have led a wasted life? Our lives are only wasted if we have not given our lives to Jesus. When the time comes for you to take your last breath this will be the only gift that will matter. We have read His Word, we have heard His Word. Have we received the Word into our hearts and lived it out? “The greatest of all persons who traveled the greatest of all distances to provide the greatest of all (gifts) sacrifices is Jesus Christ our Lord.”

What does tomorrow hold for you? Your response may be that you don´t know or that you are not a prophet. There may even be one that says, “Only God knows.” The truth is that our tomorrow depends a lot on us, even in times of crisis. You may feel that there is no way to determine the outcome of this month let alone this year but you do have a large part to play. God has instituted a law that is in effect even in times of pandemic. Just as you can still count on gravity to hold you down to the earth, God has established the law of reaping and sowing, Sunday, January 17, we evaluate what we are sowing and learn how to sow what God wants in our lives if we are not already doing that.

When you think about spiritual life, you have to think about growth, and growth is evidence of life. You plant a seed in the ground and it grows to a full-sized plant. That’s the nature of life. You have a small puppy in your house and it grows to be a big dog. You have a baby in your house and it grows to be an adult. That’s the way life works. Where there’s life, there’s growth, where there’s growth, there’s life and that’s certainly true in the spiritual realm. We’ve been given spiritual life and God intends that life to grow into maturity. The failure to grow spiritually is tragic because you don’t enjoy all the spiritual benefits and blessings that the Lord has for those who become mature in Christ. Spiritual growth is a privilege, an obligation and a responsibility for us. The goal of spiritual growth is to become like Christ. So when you’re asked the question, “Are you a mature believer?” the better question is, “Are you like Christ?” God has designed everything related to our personal Christian experience and our corporate church life to produce Christlikeness in His children.
