Christ Church Lakeside
Christ Church Lakeside, a parish of the Diocese of the West in the Anglican Church of Mexico, will observe the last Sunday after Pentecost, Christ the King Sunday, November 21, by celebrating the Holy Eucharist Service in person and via Zoom at 10:30 a.m. in our location two doors east, and on the same side, of the La Huerta Eventos Center.
Jim Powers will celebrate and give the message, “So you are a king?” based on John 18:33-37.

Unitarians
The Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is now offering in-person services for those who are fully vaccinated at the fellowship hall located on the Carretera at Hidalgo 261, Riberas del Pilar (and also on Zoom). Covid-19 protocols are followed and masks are required.
Janice Kimball will speak about “Thanksgiving – Let us Give Thanks,” Sunday, November 21, 10:30 a.m.
With all the trouble in the world today, it is often hard to just be thankful. Kimball will explore the not so “textbook” truth of the origins of Thanksgiving in the United States and the ongoing conversation of not telling the truth about American history. Why is it so important to “color” the truth? How can we be thankful given our history? And what does that say about us?

Lakeside Presbyterian
Sunday, November 21, Pastor Carolyn Hansen will give the sermon. She will discuss “The Life of Bathsheba,” wife of David, mother of Solomon, and ancestor of Jesus—and what she can teach us today.
Bathsheba is a mysterious figure, an almost blank slate whose actions are not always explained in the Biblical record. The interpretations we have of her may say more about the men who wrote those interpretations than about Bathsheba herself.
The LPC holds in-church services at 9:30 a.m. for the English language service, and 11 a.m. for the Spanish language service.
All masking and social distancing protocols are in place.

Little Chapel by the Lake
Sunday, November 21, Pastor Pete Campbell will speak and share from the Word of God in the book of Mathew at the 11 a.m. praise and worship service of the Little Chapel by the Lake, located on the Ajijic-Chapala Highway #10 in Chula Vista.

“God’s ways are different from man’s.”
This was the theme of last week’s sermon. Pastor John Linton read an account from Judges of perhaps the strangest battle in history, when Gideon’s 300 troops, armed only with lamps and trumpets, conquered the Midianite army by putting their trust wholly in the seemingly counter-intuitive guidance of the Almighty.
“God’s ways are not our ways,” he concludes, “but they are always the best ways.” Pastor John also spoke about trusting God in the face of our own personal battles.
“God prunes those He loves,” Pastor John reminds us. “Are you the same as you were ten years ago? Or are you bearing more fruit today than yesteryear? A believer who has been pruned like the newly budding grapevine will inevitably produce more vital fruit. I encourage you to surrender your self-trust and your fight against God and join Gideon’s army, placing your faith in God’s superior ways.”

Sue Powell is offering a “Quiet Day,” Thursday, December 2, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. She also will be offering weekly Zoom sessions on Wednesday during Advent, from 10-11 a.m. on December 1, 8, 15 and 22. These sessions will give attendees the opportunity to practice different forms of contemplative prayer and meditation, and to reflect upon images and readings for the season. St. Andrew’s feeding program collects non-perishable food items to donate to “Operation Feed,” which feeds about 140 families in and around San Juan Cosalá. At present, we’re eager for donations of rice or especially cash. Cash allows us to buy bulk rice at the lowest prices to help feed even more families; see pledge envelopes marked “RICE” or “BEANS” available every Sunday.

Abundant Life Church
How do you view the church? Years ago, there were generally two pools of thought in the West: one group valued the church and her influence while the other group was indifferent. Today the first group has shrunk to the church membership and the second group has a growing distain for the church, her teachings and her members. Is this something new? Come Sunday, November 21, to see just how old this hatred is towards believers and what our reaction ought to be in times of intense persecution.
