Our feeding program collects non-perishable food items to donate to “Operation Feed,” which feeds about 140 families in and around San Juan Cosalá. At present, we’re eager for donations of rice, beans or especially cash. Cash allows us to buy at bulk for the lowest prices to help feed even more families. If you opt for a cash donation, envelopes marked “Rice” or “Beans” are available every Sunday. If you sign your name to the envelope, your offering will be recorded as a church donation.
Coffee and cookies: A wonderful time for meeting friends and greeting newcomers. Please join us. We’d be grateful for volunteers to provide cookies. Those interested can sign up via the sign-up sheet near the garden pathway.

Unitarians
Sunday, June 19, Rev. Matt Alspaugh will give the presentation “Original Blessing.”
Richard Rohr, a Christian theologian, calls out conventional Christianity on its attachment to “original sin” versus an alternative concept of “original blessing.” He notes that “the words “original sin” are not in the New Testament. Yet the Church became so preoccupied with the fly in the ointment, the flaw in the beauty, that we forgot and even missed out on any original blessing. How did this happen? What might religion based on “original blessing” look like? Rohr points to Celtic and Native spiritualties as examples. “Original blessing” might be a core concept of our Unitarian Universalist values, a guide star to a better world. Let’s explore what “original blessing” might offer us. Colleen Berry will be the service leader.
Next week the service theme will be “The Value and Meaning of Friendship.” Ted Rogers will give the presentation and D’Vorah Kelley will be the service leader.

From the apostle Paul, in Philippians: “In humility, count others more important than yourself.” That statement is at the core of Pastor Linton’s recent trek through Philippians. In fact, he went so far as to tell us that we are actually called to make others not equal, but first! (“Consider others better than yourself.” – Phil. 2:3)
“Unity in the church requires that Christians consider their conduct,” he continued. “Does the Bible tell us to love ourselves? To improve our self-image? No. Love others, love God. That’s what the Bible tells us, over and over.
“Living for self is the banner of the world. Living for others, living for Christ, this is the dual stanchion of the church.”
In today’s self-centered, grasping world, Paul’s demands might seem almost impossible to apply. But as our pastor said, “Christ gave his life for me, that I might serve others.” And you?

Most of us have had occasions in life when we would have liked to speak with God. After all God spoke with Moses through a burning bush and to the boy Samuel in the tabernacle. He even talked to the witch Baalam using a donkey. Yet there are times of great trials in our lives that God is silent—times when we desperately want to hear from him but no answer comes. Esther, a Jewish girl in Babylon, faced such a crisis. There are important lessons to be learned from her situation.
