Unitarians

Sunday, July 24, Rev. Matt Alspaugh will speak on “Remembering the Future.”

Rev. Matt Alspaugh has been following the work of futurist Jane McGonigal, who uses massive multiplayer games as simulations to forecast the future. She believes that actively trying to imagine or daydream the future can make us more resilient, better prepared for whatever comes. Can we imagine optimistic rather than a dystopian futures? Will this help us? We’ll spend a little time recalling possible futures. Anne Morris will be the service leader.

Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship services are Sundays, 10:30 a.m. In person services are now available at Carretera at Hidalgo 261, Riberas del Pilar.

Lakeside Presbyterian

Pastor Carolyn will talk this week about “The Greatest Love Song.”

What is a romantic and sensuous love poem doing in the middle of the Bible? It may surprise you to know that the Bible is actually full of references to sexuality. This week our sermon is about the Song of Songs—117 verses of love poetry. Most of the verses are dialog between a woman and a man who deeply love one another.

Lake Chapala Baptist

“Where are the valiant ones who stand for Christ today?” Pastor Linton asked us last Sunday morning. Then he gave us some unforgettable examples.

We all remember Daniel and his three young friends, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Daniel was willing to face death in the lion’s den rather than lose his hour of prayer. And the famous young trio chose to risk a fiery death, rather than bow down to King Nebuchadnezzar’s garish statue.

“Are we not also sons and daughters of the King most high? Our challenge is to rise up for God’s glory and refuse to be swayed by fear. Those three young men and Daniel are heroes; their courage gives us all hope. Jesus never said we’d have no challenges but oh, brothers and sisters, He will deliver us from the midst of the fire, the heart of the lion’s den!”
